World Savings Online Banking

I want to open a savings account with an online world bank. It is FDIC insured, but I'm still unsure.

Yes, it is. I have had an account with ingdirect.com and hsbcdirect.com for a few years now. I have had no problems with either one of them. I like ing so much that I just opened up an ingdirect checking account.

I'm very new to the world of trading (in fact, I haven't even started yet).

Here's my question:

Let's say I sold some securities and made $2500. How do I get that cash from my online brokerage account (such as Scottrade) into my bank's savings account?

I'm not sure about Scottrade, but at TDAmeritrade you can set up a link from your brokerage account to your bank account, then all you have to do is go on the TDAmeritrade website and indicate that you want to transfer x amount of money either to or from that bank account. If you enter the request before a specified time (maybe 5:00pm?), they transfer the money electronically that night. If you enter the request later than that, they transfer it the next night.

When you first sign up, it takes a few days to get the link approved (they send some test transactions to make sure the account numbers are right, etc.), but after it's set up, it's very easy to transfer money either way.

Be aware that it takes 3 business days after a stock is sold until the trade "settles". Even though your brokerage account balance will show the money in there, it's not really there until the settlement date, so you won't be able to transfer the money until then.

Some brokerage accounts also allow you to write checks directly against the account. If you have one like that, you could just deposit a check written against the brokerage account into the bank account - or if you're paying a bill with the money, just write the check directly and skip the bank entirely.

I want to get a online account, either a checking or savings, as long as its online. I have bad credit, so I was denied and electric orange account, one of the best there is, so I want something, the second chance accounts all have monthly fees, though no credit checks,overdraft fees or minimum deposit. Can I find something completely free at all anymore, that is online. I do have a checking account with my local bank, but I will traveling soon, nad would rather prefer to access my funds form anywhere in the world that had internet access.Thanks

Checking or Savings accounts have nothing to do with credit score. You open an account that you want, and deposit funds. That's it. If u want online access, most banks and credit unions have this feature. That is not the problem.

Just call your local banks and credit unions in your area. If you don't want any fees, skip the big banks like Bank of America and only look at credit unions. Pick up your phone book and call the credit unions and ask them your questions. If your local bank does not have online access, I would personally find another main bank.

PenFed has a free online accounts. There is just a one time membership fee for opening, i think it is 20 bucks. They don't charge any fees.

I have recently been a victim of Countrywide CD scam. I went to the Countrywide website and saw that they had a 5.65%APY Certificate of Deposit. I singed up an account and they promised to lock my interest rate for 10 days, which is very short for doing an international back-to-bank transfer.
They took five days to process a trial-deposits and my online savings bank took five days to show me the trial-deposits. I called their customer service couple of times and they drop my phone calls. They did not offer me any courtesy of extending my 10 days. I then saw on the 14th day that they have extracted my money from my savings account and fixed it in my CD account for a much lower rate than what they first promised me. When I called their customer service the suppervisor threatened me to take a huge penalty on my money and locked my money for a year.

Countrywide is a scam. If you are a victim of it please share it to the world.

Go over their heads and call the corporate office, the local guys don't know what they are doing.

I am planning to quit my job, sell all my belongings, end the lease on my apertment, take my savings and travel around for a year. I need to maintain cirtain things while I am on the road like a bank account and my investments, I can do all the administrative stuff online but I think they want me to have an address. Where do I have mail go for a whole year and what about taxes on investments ?

Talk to a VERY responsible family member. One that doesn't plan on moving soon and offer to pay them a fee to assist you while you're out of town. If their responsible, they'll probably do it for free.

Or, hire a bookkeeper... they generally work for $13-$16/hour and you can have your mail go there. There's always a local bookkeeper (or two) in every town or city or ask a local CPA.

Last resort, pay mailboxes etc, or the UPS Store to hold your mail for a year!!
