I am looking to move all of my personal savings and checking accounts into a new bank because going to the small credit union I currently use is very inconvenient.
I want to find the best, preferably nationwide, bank for personal accounts. I live in TX, in The Colony but work in Carrollton and frequently go to DFW Airport for business. I have only about 50k in savings and want to start paying bills online. I would like free checking and ATMs too. I want a bank that isn't heavy on the fees and has good operating hours.
The banks I know that are in the area are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Century Bank, Washington Mutual and Chase.
Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated since I don't have the time to do my own research. Thanks in advance!
My vote is for Bank of America!
Wells Fargo Launches Personal Online Safe for Customers First Online Storage Solution from a Financial Institution for Electronic Documents ...
I was wondering if anyone has had issues with Wells Fargo making mistakes in their personal checking accounts. I have had a lot of issues from them charging my account two to three times for the same transaction. Before you tell me I need to make sure that I need to be more careful with my finances and it may have been my fault for the error, banks do not usually send out apology letters for account holders making the mistake. The first letter I had ever received was back in 2000, I hung on to that because I thought WOW a bank that is concerned enough to apologize for their mistakes. Over the next four to five years I had received at least 3 more of these letters because someone made an entry mistake on my account. Around late 2006 to early 2007 the sending out the letter of apology quit and they went militant. In September 2007 it happened again with a debit card. Instead of crediting my account they actually ran three debits through twice each. It took forty five days for me to recover MOST of the overdraft fees.
The other issue I want to know if anyone has had, when I moved from my hometown to a different town 100 miles away I called the Wells Fargo tele-banker to update my home address the last day of the cycle, they said they would update that right away and just in case I did not get my statement I could have it also delivered to my online account to view. I did that and well I did receive my statement in Dec around the 11th of that month but did not receive any of the other mailing from Wells Fargo. I have the email that was sent that day to confirm my address change but they never changed my address.
I'm surprised that the phone banker did not tell you they could not do any changes of address within the last 5 days of your cycle. If he had tried to do it the system would not have allowed it. What the phone banker should have done, was after he attempted to change your address and couldn't .He was supposed to call you and tell you
he couldn't change your address and mark his calendar so when
the system would allow him to change your address's he would do so then. The phone bankers have such a turn over, you probably got a lazy or new banker. With mistakes like these, I would definitely change banks.

What are some major banks that I can try and apply for personal loans online (like Bank of America, Wells Fargo etc)?
wachovia, hsbc, eloan, washingtom mutual, chase, BB&T
Not sure if I'm in the right section, but what should I be looking for when choosing a bank? ( OR should this be in the "Other - Business and Finance? or in the Investing??) I recently got a new banking account at Wells Fargo and becuase i knew someone that worked there, i got a "hooked" up. I got both a checking and savings account, free checks, and a debit card. I also have online access to my banking account. Because i was hooked up, there is no minimum for me to have in my checking and savings. (other than just a dollar). Is this standard at other banks? Is this standard for you Wells Fargo customers? If Wells Fargo isn't a good bank which other banks should i consider? Bank of America? If this isnt in the right section please direct me to the correct one. I chose to post here becuase this is "personal financing" in a sense. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated.

Oh yes forgot to add this. Is there a $15 fee per month to use this bank? it was "waived" for me.
Wells Fargo is a good bank. Sounds like your friend got you an excallent setup.
Advice? Never get a Credit Card and you be ok. Think of it this way, if I cant afford it now, I dont NEED it.
It's been so many years since I've opened a checking account! My bank upset me, so I'm going to open an account with Wells Fargo. First of all, does anyone do personal banking with them and have any issues? I've heard about a few people not liking them, but overall hear good things. What do you think? The checking account structure sounds the best for me, from what I've read online (I also looked at Chase and Compass). I am not sure where I'll be living next, so I want something that's kind of all over.
And next, what do I need to take with me to the bank?? Just something to deposit and an ID and SS card? What if I'm temporarily living in AZ, but I have an ID issued in CO? Will that be an issue? Can I write a check from my old account to myself to transfer my money over?
I know, I have silly questions. I feel like I'm 16 again, but it's just been so long, and I'm sure my mother was with me when I opened my last account years ago!
I've had no experience with Wells Fargo, but they've been around a long time.
When I was in college in a different state, I opened a checking account with my home-state driver's license. You could always call the bank first and ask what documents you will need to bring with you.
Wells Fargo Phishing Scam | Malware Protection
First, let me explain what phishing is. Phishing is essentially an act of deceiving the victim to disclose information. E 'on inclusion of an email message with a link to a website where the victim would enter personal information. In this scam, you receive an email from "Personal Banking: personalbanking@wellsfargo.com" indicating that there are some unauthorized access to your account, and that should be on the link and enter your account and checksome information. When you click on the link you are taken to a site that looks identical to the site of Wells Fargo.
If you look at the HTML of the page, you find that are almost identical. One thing about this type of fraud is a little 'surprising that the message of my past G-filter anti-spam email. This is slightly different to prevent fraud, I guess that does not demand that you receive this e-mail with your account number as the answer to others, and has not requestedPassword or similar. Simply ask that you log on as you normally do, that would not raise the eyebrow of normal users. Closer inspection of the site you will find that the forms of input data to send (username and password) to some foreign script and not well Fargo. Probably the fraudster with all the usernames and passwords to him via e-mail. After having responded to the presentation of the data of your website that the password is incorrect. Here isunsuspecting victim would think that was cited by the claim of unauthorized access to e-mail.
