My main bank is a small credit union with about half a dozen branches. I also bank with Sovereign.
When I make a transfer from savings to checking online at the credit union it happens instantly. The same transaction through sovereign takes 24 hours.
Using online bill pay at the credit union the amount is deducted from my balance when I authorize the billpay. I like that alot because the money really isn't available after I authorize a payment so why show it? Sovereign waits for the payment to clear before deducting it from my available balance. Are they hoping customers trip up so they can charge them fees?
How can a such a small bank have online banking that is a class above a national bank like Sovereign?
As your experience suggests, bigger does not mean better when it comes to financial institutions.
Big companies have economies of scale and volume going for them, while smaller organizations are able to change faster and provide more personalized service.
In addition, your example of superior service from a smaller credit union demonstrates the idea that people shouldn't pre-judge organizations based on size.

I opened a Sovereign Bank online banking account, but they didn't give me a password or a username for the website. Is the username the account no. and the password the PIN, or is it some other combination of things? Help me out!

Im trying to enroll online banking for sovereign bank, but i can't get verify and i think is because i cant get the maiden name correct. I forgot my mother's maiden name and is there a way to find out?
How can anyone forget their mother's maiden name? Don't you have any grandparents with her last name?
I'm getting pissed off here. I tried enrolling like literally 50 times already but my identity still couldn't get verified. I think is because of that stupid mother's maiden name that i forgot, but i was able to provide every other information including my SSN. I believe a SSN is enough to prove my identity, why the hell is the maiden name required. I need to confirm it on paypal quick to pay for an item on ebay too. Has anyone experienced similar situations and how did you go upon in solving it? Or is there a way in confirming paypal without the dump online banking?
If you are speaking about Sovereign Bank, go to your local branch and speak with the manager or a representative, Sovereign is always trying to get me to start up online and offering some small bonus for doing so.
As far as the situation with the mothers maiden name, my own mother had a maiden name from the Czech Republic that's long and not easy to spell so I just use her first name, when people ask for it I usually explain and they understand and let me use a name easier to remember.
