I stupidly paid for Sky Tv Insurance over the phone and I have received no details from them since !?

From my online banking it states the company is called 'N D S W S Ltd,Kirby Ind Est' I've searched online but am unable to find out who they actually are ! This happened before X-Mas and they took the money out a few days ago but they stated over the phone they would send me all the details and I've received none ! Help ! ????
Sorry, it was for my Sky + Box
It wasn't from Sky Tv themselves but another 'company'. This is why I'm all flustered. I have no way of contacting them because they never sent any details to me.
It wasn't Domestic & General. A company kept sending me letters and I ignored them and then I received a telephone call, went through the motions, gave them solo card number (yes,VERY stupid) and they stated that I would receive all the information in a few days, and that was before X-Mas.They have taken £96.00 (for 14months of cover) a few days ago. I have no way of contacting them at all. The company that is detailed on my online banking is N D S W S Ltd,Kirby Ind Est. I cannot find anything about them to get their phone number so that I can ask what is happening i.e paper work etc. I'm not so sure now if I've been scammed or not ! Where else can I look for their company besides Yellow Pages ? I can't find them.
Thanks for the forum link ! My call wasn't a recorded one though. The number began with 0151 (or 0152), I can't remember the rest ! DOH me !!! Can I get the money back if it is a scam ???
Am currently waiting to speak to someone at Sky now
Leslie, i gave them the card number though, i can't believe how dumb i've been. They have just said it is not legit. The woman is trying to help me but said i need to phone police so they can check on the company.I'm so dumb !!!!
Fences and Windows ..... Many many thanks for all the info and the time for doing this for me. I'm actually bedridden/disabled so hubby went to the police but was told that I have GOT to go myself, so an appointment is set up for midday tomorrow.
Would you mind if I print off and show the police the info you have given me ? I actually stupidly paid by Solo/Debit card and not Direct Debit.I canecelled my card the very same night and the next day the bank told me to put in a Dispute Claim but that can take up to 10 weeks to sort out. I shall phone the trading standards and also the number you have given me for the Company.I have received no policy or info from them since speaking to the 'representative' on the phone before X-Mas and certainly was not given a 'cooling off' period. Now I have this info, is it actually worth going to the police or not ? Obviously I do not want to drag myself there and then look a fool !
Many thanks again.

This is a potential scam. For details, see the Digital Spy forum.

I've dug some more digging around. The number began 0151, which is a Merseyside code, and Kirkby Industrial Estate (aka Knowsley Industrial Estate) is near Liverpool.

NDSWS would make the company who contacted you
NATIONWIDE DIGITAL SATELLITE WARRANTY SERVICES LIMITED
Registered No. 05597928
UNIT 23, CAPITOL TRADING PARK, KIRKBY BANK ROAD, KNOWSLEY INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, KIRKBY, MERSEYSIDE, L33 7SY

This company has been covered by the Mirror newspaper, who said that "Despite appearances, this lot are not connected to Sky TV and their letters have been ruled misleading by the Advertising Standards Authority".

It appears from the website www.ndsws.co.uk that they used to be based in Southport, but they must have had to move for some reason...

According to information at creditgate.com, the company with the very related name NATIONWIDE DIGITAL SATELLITE SERVICE LIMITED (no "Warranty") is now dissolved (on 11/04/2006) and never filed accounts with Company House. This is almost certainly the same company, as they were based in Kirkby Industrial Estate.

According to Mirror Investigates, the director is Michael Sullivan, of whom they say "In August 2003, he was prosecuted by two trading standards departments and admitted three offences over mailshots that were, funnily enough, misleading" (a similar but probably unconnected operation is run by a David Reynolds).

The PC Advisor forum gives these details to contact NDSWS:
The number to contact them is 0870 241 6485
Service office 01704 884777
Registered office 0151 2896607

You should first contact your bank to cancel the direct debit.

Then, contact Knowsley Trading Standards (phone: 0151 443 4737).

Kirkby Municipal Building,
Cherryfield Drive,
Kirkby
L32 1TX

Email: consumer.advice@knowsley.gov.uk

Then, contact NDSWS to cancel the insurance. Ensure that you tell them explicitly that you believe that you were not given full information about the warranty you were purchasing, that you were not given a "cooling off" period, and the you were mis-sold the insurance as they gave you the impression that they were operating on behalf of Sky Digital. Ask for (insist on) your money back, and make clear that you do not wish to be contacted for marketing purposes by this company, any related companies, or any companies they may have sold your information to. If they are uncooperative, mention that you will contact Trading Standards (you will have done so already, but they don't need to know that).

Good luck.

what bank do you prefer?

I have to get a new checking account. i want to have the ability to see my bank statements online etc.. the choices i have in my town are Huntington Bank, Sky Bank, Liberty Bank, a local bank and National City (who i am with now. due to security reasons i would like to leave.).. i can also get to a Chase bank.. please give me some information of which bank you prefer.. ?? Thanks so much!

I would choose your locally owned bank or credit union. Many credit unions have community charters now, allowing anyone who is associated (lives, works, attends school, worships, etc.) with that community or county to join. Credit Unions are ussually really competitive with rates and services as well.
I'm all for supporting locally owned businesses rather than mega corporations (where you often have to talk to someone overseas to get customer support). When you do have a problem, smaller company's have the advantage of you being able to often go straight to the top with it.
Most banks offer free internet access now and they all basically have the same products & services. Go where you are valued and like I said, I would consider supporting your local bank or credit union because in the end it will make your community a better place to live and work.

bank charges on benefit?

Hi
my story goes, i changed over my bank details with sky digital to my new account i just opened, with only just reactivating sky after being with someone else they said they would snd me letters of confirmation, i didnt recieve these letters or any bills or dates to be deducted. RBS online banking do not show new DD's until the first has been paid so i had no idea when the first payment would be due as i was still waiting for the letters from sky.
I then find out they tried to take it but the money wasnt there, i immediately rang both bank and sky to find out what was going on, the bank told me they were gonna charge me £38 for the £17.50 that wasnt in the bank (unpaid item fee). this to me is not fair as i had no clue when the money would be taken and still waiting for the letters of new dd confirmation.
i rang the bank last week to find out when these charges would be taken, being a lone parent on income support i worked out i could not afford the 38 but found a way to sacrifice something to pay it.
they told me they could not see anything that was charged or applied to my account then and right up until next months statement date there wasnt anything to show on my account that they were gonna deduct charges. I even asked the woman over and over is she sure and she said yes she was sure and nothing was going to be taken.
so ok, i reach today, short on money, short on food, nappies, gas, electric, etc so i said yesterday rite, child benefit goes in tomorrow which is £46 so we will be fine.
I goes online to check if its in and what do you know, they have taken £38 and left me with £8.
Is this right? a huge mix up with sky has made me and my children suffer.
i am in uk so if anyone can help answering this i would be greatly appreciated.
And yes, i can afford £17.50 a month for my childrens rewards for when they are good they watch the cartoons, the problem i am talking about is that the day sky tried to take the payment, my income support & tax Credits were due to be paid into my account the NEXT day. This bill could have been paid the following day and i would have known the money wouldnt be in the bank the day before if i had recieved a simple statement.
an obviously many tax payers are not single parents with 3 children and trying to get their own businesses off the ground!

Hi go to citizens advice.
Good Luck

sky bank ohio?

I'M FILING MY MY TAXES ONLINE BUT DON'T HAVE MY ROUTING NUMBER. WHAT IS THE ROUTING NO. TO MY ACCOUNT.(4603423942)

First off all, never put bank account numbers, credit card numbers etc. on the internet. There are bad people out there doing bad things.

Do you have a checkbook? The routing number is a ten-digit number on the bottom left corner of the check. The first two numbers are probably either 05 or 06.

Or you can call your bank's customer service number and ask them. They will give it to you no problem.

Has anyone heard of Chesapeake Bank or Clear Sky Savings Accounts?

I found an online savings account with 3.75% APR through a community bank based out of Williamsburg, VA. Everything about them seems legit, I looked them up on switchboard.com and all the addresses for branches on their website show up there. Is there anything else I can do to confirm their validity before I transfer my money over??
Here's their website: http://www.chesbank.com/index.php
Okay, I need to correct myself. In the past 24 hours or less, the APY dropped from 3.75% to 3.15%. Can't say I'm surprised haha...

I think I read something bad about clear sky.
Google the names of the companies followed by the words
complaints, scams, or rip-offs
This is research at its best - give it a go and read up.

Amazing that rates can drop that fast.

Texas firm countersues bank in itworld itworld itworld connection ...

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Hillary Machinery Inc. of Plano, charged that PlainsCapital failed to adequately protect the stolen money from online thieves. Just as it would not be “commercially reasonable” for the bank to keep cash unguarded from thieves, it was unreasonable that the bank did not have adequate online protections, Hillary’s complaint said.

The bank’s lawsuit was filed after Hillary demanded that it repay about $200,000, the amount of money not recovered since the theft.

In last week’s response to the bank’s lawsuit, Hillary insisted that when it entrusted its “vital operating capital” to the bank, it assumed that PlainsCapital would adequately protect the money. The lawsuit comtended that the authentication measures used by PlainscCapital for wire transfer transactions could not protect the company from the kind of theft that hit Hillary.
