I know hackers use all kinds of insidious means, like keystroke recording cookies etc. to try and get pin numbers and passwords off pc's. Is it safe to use internet banking from home then?
I don't think there is a clear yes-no answer. But, software can wind up on any PC that will record you keystrokes and send that data to someone. Odds are low, and if you have good software to protect your self it is unlikely to occur.
In the US there is no law that requires banks to "make good" losses customers suffer this way although they currently do.
But, that might not be the case in the UK. If someone via the net installs software on your machine connects to the bank and transfers your money to never never land you might have a VERY hard time making them believe that it was not you.
It's one thing to have your credit cards impacted this way it quite another to have your bank account looted even if a few months later it's corrected.
If the bank connection requires a different code every time you dial in (there are methods like this ) then I'd say it's OK, otherwise NO.
By the way I've talked to several different banks officers trying to determine if there is anyway to not allow any electronic transfer of funds out of my account, no luck.
Introducing phishing emails that are used to lure the user, and tips for safe online banking
I'm working in France right now and I want to access my bank account on line and transfer some cash to pay my credit card bill so I don't miss a payment. How safe is it?
I pay all of my bills over t'internet. I cant see it being a problem no matter where in the world you are.

I do all of my banking on my banks internet banking site. Its fast, convenient, and I can tell exactly when my checks go thru. I think it is very handy and eventually, I believe we will all have to bank online or not bank at all.
My significant other will not sign up for internet banking. He says he "doesnt have time" and he is too busy and doesnt want to do it.
Do you think it is safe, secure and the easiest way to bank?
Yes as long as you use a large bank with a good enough security system in place.
It is easy for most people, but in the United States, where people still write many checks, manual reconciliation may be easier for them.
Do not make your password your regular bank number, social security number, last name spelled backwards, or anything else that can be deduced from your public information
if you have a basic antivirus system and firewall, and are using a wireless internet connection, how safe is internet banking?
how easy is it for other people within like a 100m radius to just tap into the internet connection and see what im doing?
yeah, i meant wireless from home
we have very computer literate neighbours though
I personally use internet banking all the time. It's quick and easy. I've never had a problem with anyone hacking into my account or anything and I've used online banking for about 3 years. I also have a basic antivirus system and firewall and a wireless internet connection. I believe its perfectly safe.
uh oh! i play safe with my card... never use it online.

Skimming of 'secure' payment cards has become reality
Skimming of 'secure' payment cards has become reality
The Dutch news agency 'ANP' reported that on the April the 27th three suspects of card-fraud had their first hearing in court. Several media publicized the news (in Dutch) . The suspects are part of an international operating group of criminals and the investigations spread over several European countries.
One detail of the news caught my attention: the skimming was done by replacing the card-readers used for two-factor authentication at internet banking. The catch: these readers can't read the magnetic strip of the card at all, they only talk to the chip on the card. And exactly this chip is introduced to make skimming impossible. So I decided to dig a bit deeper in this case.
