What is the best bank to do bussines with ?

I am in US marine corps and have been banking with Navy Federal Credit Union, how ever I am about to finish my contract and unfortunatly navyfed dose not have any branches next to my house. So i need to chose another bank. I am thinking may be USAA becouse they are online and mail only. Or should I use something like Bank of America or Wells Fargo. Or do they reap you off ? I live in California btw, and only need bank for checking account I plan to keep my emergency found with vanguard money market account.
Any suggestions will help, Thank you.

Not-for-profit credit unions are the best financial institution around. You can set up direct deposit, and many of them belong to a network so you can use other ATMs at no cost. Branches are no big deal. Bank online with your credit union instead. It's safe, fast, and convenient. I agree with the other respondent that provided the link to a credit union locator. Talk with Navy Fed, too, since you already have a relationship there. Why mess up a good thing? They have tons of branches. Credit unions are not the profit-mongers that banks are. You'll find lower fees and better rates at a credit union.

what bank offers "truly" Free ATM use worldwide?

I'm trying to find a bank that offers FREE ATM use worldwide. I did a search and found numerous banks claiming they offer "free worldwide ATM use".... i.e. First National Bank of the Guld Coast, Quantum National Bank, some credit unions, etc. But are they truly free? I can easily open an account online, regardless of what state the bank may be based (I'm in California). I don't require to go inside a bank to do my banking. This will be a secondary account primarily use for traveling. Can anyone let me know their personal experience with any particular bank or know of any bank that offers a "truly free" worldwide ATM use service?? Thanks so much.

Clark Howard spoke on this last weekend.
There are a handfull of cards that will NEVER charge you for ATM use anywhere in the world.
One was Charles Schwab Invest First Visa.
This is a no-limit card - so you must have 800+ scores.
Which means ironically enough - you always pay your credit card bills in full.

Go to the ClarkHoward.com website and see if you can find last weeks show.
Or go to Schwab.com - only if you have top credit.
Now I remember, Fidelity Investments is the other one (pretty sure), they also have a no-limit card, that offers 2% cash back with NO atm fees worldwide.

Didn't candidate Obama promise "Special Interest Groups would have NO influence in HIS Administration?

So WTH do you call this?

(be sure to read to end)

By MATTHEW KAMINSKI
Oakland, Calif.

Flexing his influence, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) President Andy Stern turned up at the White House 22 times in the first six months of the Obama administration, more than anyone else on the visitor logs released last month.

But the good vibes in Washington contrast with the troubles inside the house of labor itself. Unions are competing for shrinking turf and members, and the most ferocious intramural battle today involves Mr. Stern's union here in California.

For the past 10 months, the SEIU has fought to hold on to 150,000 members in its Union of Healthcare Workers affiliate, or UHW. The challenge comes from a group of former UHW leaders and Stern confidantes. Pushed out by Mr. Stern after a prolonged power struggle, they started a rival outfit, the National Union of Healthcare Workers, or NUHW, in January and immediately moved to build it up by wooing away members from the SEIU's local, UHW.

Now these upstarts charge that the UHW threatened workers with deportation and tampered with secret ballots to narrowly win a pivotal election last summer in Fresno, Calif. The NUHW allegations, contained in a complaint filed last Friday and previously not made public, take the battle to a new level.

The June vote was in a "decertification" election—in which some 10,000 home-care workers were asked to choose between the UHW that already represented them or the NUHW. Old labor hands say they've never seen a decertification vote like this.

The SEIU shipped in 950 or so staff and spent an estimated $10 million on mailings, advertising, phone banks, door-to-door canvassing and the like. The NUHW doesn't have this kind of firepower. At a rally for staff in late May, David Regan, an SEIU executive vice president who took over the UHW in January, roared that, "We gotta give a butt-whipping they will never forget." When the secret ballots were mailed in and counted, the SEIU won that vote by a sliver, 2,938 to 2,705.

The NUHW immediately called for a re-run of the election, challenging voting irregularities. The two unions have traded accusations since. But now, Carlos Martinez, an immigrant from El Salvador who was on the SEIU's staff during the campaign, has come forward—so he says—to blow the whistle on his employer. Mr. Martinez went door-to-door canvassing the home-care workers during the 15-day election. Like him, many of them are native Spanish speakers; some are illiterate.

Speaking in an interview over a sandwich at a hotel in the Bay Area late last month, Mr. Martinez says he was instructed by superiors to tell the workers that if they voted against the SEIU, they could lose their medical benefits, see their green cards or citizenship revoked and possibly be deported. He says he and other staffers were also told to pressure voters to spoil ballots that had been filled out for the NUHW. In other instances he filled ballots out for them. He says he even took some to the post office, as did other SEIU campaign workers!

dude he said he wouldnt hire any lobbysts. i guess he meant - except a few guys i like.

he said he would bring the cameras in on the healthcare debate so we can see who is for the country and who is for business. i distinctly remember the doors being shut with no one allowed inside except democrats that agreed with him.

he said the new healthcare will not cost anything, except use money we are currently losing to an inefficient methods. so it would be better used. riiiight, we all know how that went.

he said if you like your old healthcare, you can keep it no problem.

sure, as long as you pay a tax for doing so.

he said he never heard rev. wright say anything anti-white during 20 years. ummm okay. in his book, and both his writings and those of his wife, they express a disdain for white people. white people that fought to free the slaves and risked their lives and status during civil rights, and white people that made programs so that his wife could get an education - granted, that she worked for.

if anything, he should thank white people. they made him president.

Someone explain this one to me?? ?

How was my response a violation any help here??? The funny thing is I cut and pasted the news story from yahoo news!!!!

Question: McCains son in a banking scandal?

Question Details: The bank lost $73M while Andy McCain sat on the auditor board. He quickly resigned. How will this sit with voters? http://online.wsj.com/article/SB12187646 1747243159.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

Deleted Answer: Don't you mean Joe Bidens Kid??? WASHINGTON - A son of Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden was paid an undisclosed amount of money as a consultant by MBNA, the largest employer in Delaware, during the years the senator supported legislation that was promoted by the credit card industry and opposed by consumer groups. ADVERTISEMENT Barack Obama's presidential campaign said Biden helped forge a bipartisan compromise on the measure, which is now law and makes it harder for consumers to obtain bankruptcy protection in the courts. MBNA's consulting payments to Hunter Biden, first reported by The New York Times, followed his departure in 2001 from the company, where he had been an executive. Obama opposed the bankruptcy law, enacted in 2005, while Biden supported it. David Wade, a spokesman for the Obama campaign, said that "after working in the Clinton administration in the Department of Commerce on Internet privacy and online commerce issues, Hunter consulted for five years as an expert on these very same issues at a time of enormous expansion in online banking." At the time Hunter Biden was receiving consulting payments from MBNA, he also was a Washington lobbyist at a firm he had co-founded. "He was not a lobbyist for MBNA, and his work had absolutely nothing to do with the bankruptcy bill. Zero. Nothing," said Wade. Resurrecting Biden's role in the bankruptcy legislation could undercut one of the Obama campaign's lines of attack: That his Republican opponent, John McCain, is insensitive to the financial woes of middle-class Americans. Consumer and civil rights groups and unions, as well as Democratic opponents, had argued that the bankruptcy legislation was unfair to low-income working people, single mothers, minorities and the elderly, and would remove a safety net for those who have lost their jobs or face mounting medical bills. The financial services industry made the case that bankruptcy frequently is a refuge of gamblers, impulsive shoppers, divorced or separated fathers avoiding child support, and multimillionaires who buy mansions in states with liberal exemptions to shelter assets from creditors. When the Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill early in 2005, Biden, Dianne Feinstein of California and Herb Kohl of Wisconsin were the only Democrats to vote with the Republican majority. Biden also voted for the bill on final passage in the Senate, while Obama voted against it. MBNA employees have poured more than $200,000 into Biden's Senate campaigns over the past two decades, making donors working for the credit card company the senator's largest source of campaign money. On the bankruptcy bill, the senator "took plenty of knocks from the largest employer in his state because he demanded changes," said Wade, the Obama campaign spokesman. "Sen. Biden improved the bill for low-income workers, women, and children. There were times when he believed amendments on both sides would have blown up a bipartisan compromise backed by three quarters of the Senate. At those moments, Sen. Biden had to make the tough calls and he voted to pass a bill." In a separate matter in which Hunter Biden's lobbying activities were referenced, he and Biden's brother Jim have been sued for allegedly defrauding an ex-business partner. In the lawsuit filed last year in state court in New York, Anthony Lotito says that he got a call from Jim Biden in early 2006 saying that Sen. Biden was concerned with the impact that Hunter's lobbying activities might have on the senator's expected campaign for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. According to the lawsuit, Jim Biden said his brother had asked him to seek Lotito's assistance in finding employment for Hunter in a non-lobbying capacity. The lawsuit says that Lotito later was cut out of a business arrangement with Jim and Hunter Biden to purchase a Wall Street hedge fund. Nicholas Gravante, a lawyer for the Bidens, said that Lotito's claim that Sen. Biden told his brother that he was concerned about his son's lobbying activities is completely baseless. "There is absolutely no connection between Joe Biden and this lawsuit. The case is without merit and it will be dismissed," said Gravante, a partner at the firm of Boies, Schiller & Flexner.
