Looking for an online checking account that we could pair with a Roth IRA. We need an account with free online bill pay and a low minimum balance, about $2,000. Any bank or credit union will have online billpay these days. Look for a strong one in your area at bankrate.com, there's a section where they evaluate the strengths of banks and CUs.
Forget about interest today, it's negligible. Make sure your bank is FDIC insured. Interest is taxable income, anyway.
I prefer credit unions because they didn't seem to go for the "go-go" ideas that many banks did in the past few years. I think they are for the most part more conservatively run.

I am a minor and I was wondering if I could have my own online banking account for just my account. When I had bought something or need to know what my account balance is, I would ask my parents to check it using their online account. My checking account is tied to my parents because I am a minor, but is it possible for me to have my own online banking account so that I can check my balance and spendings by myself, without having my parent check it using their online banking account and without having any control or seeing their own accounts?
If you have a social security number, i think you can have your own account. Contracts with minors are voidable by the minor. That means that you can change your mind at any time ... which scares a bank. Go in and don't tell them your age and see if you can open an account. /

It was a deposit directly from Bank of America, which is headquartered in Charlotte NC. BofA has several bonuses you could have been receiving. For example, Keep the Change bonus goes into your account at the one year anniversary of you starting it. Or Refer-a-friend bonus goes in after the friend has the account open for 90 days. Several other accounts have bonuses paid to you after they have been open for six months. If the payment was $25 I'd say it was refer-a-friend, if it was paid into your savings account I'd say it was Keep the Change. But there are more promotions that take 3-6 months to apply to your account, maybe you just forgot about it. At least it was a payment to you!
