interesting philosophy case study!!! tell me what you think!?

Tom went to the ATM & requested $10 with a receipt. What he got was $1000 with a receipt for $10.
He checked his account online and found his account had been debited by only $10. He put the $ in a safe place expecting the bank to spot the mistake and ask for it back. But weeks passed and nobody called.
After 2 months Richard concluded that no one was going to ask for the $ soo he decided to go on a cruise to Bahamas

As he was purchasing the tickets he did feel a twinge of guilt. Wasn't this stealing? He quickly managed to convince himself it was no such thing. He had not taken the money;it had just been given to him. &he hadn't taken it from anyone else, so no one had been robbed. As for the bank, they would be insured against such eventualities.& it was their fault they had lost the $. They should have had safer systems. it wasnt theft, just best luck he had ever had

What do you think Tom should do? Is his thinking morally correct? Is this the banks mistake or is Tom stealing??

This is downright theft. It's not being honest about what
happened. I don't care if it was a huge institution or
money from somebody's SSI, it's wrong in so many
ways. That you took the money and didn't report it
will always be on your mind, even on your death bed.
Could you really live with this your whole life. It doesn't
matter if it was someone else's mistake, you stole it
so ultimately it's your moral mistake and unless you're
a total psychopath, this will eat away at you in small
increments forever.

International students / expatriates in Taiwan, your advice please?

I am considering to take up a short-term cooking course, which may span a few months, in Taiwan. How do I apply for a student visa to stay there for that period of time?

Do I need to get their local medical insurance policy first, in case I got to visit a GP?

What about opening a savings account? What documents to produce to a bank, other than my passport?

Do you have any good online sources on study / living in Taiwan?

I recommend you to go to your local Taiwan cultural and economic office or embassy. They will give you the best answer. By the way , here you have a web page http://www.boca.gov.tw/mp?mp=2
it might help you.
good luck~!

Help with IT: user interfaces etc?

I know that homework questions are really annoying but i'd really appreciate some help to know if i am on the right track with this :)

The first question is:
What are the two user interfaces mentioned in the case study?
At first i thought it would be Fujitsu 2200 but idk what the other one would be ... maybe Windows?

And the second is:
What are the names of the two software packages?
I just wanted to check, are they OMVI and Pay Roll?

What is the name of the User Interface used?
Not sure about this question ... would the answer still be Fujitsu 2200 for OMVI and Windows for Pay Roll?

And lastly:
List the three types of Systems Software

I've been looking online but there are varying answers and some people have even said there aren't only three ... so im kind of confused about this.

"The main computer used in the business is a Fujitsu 2200, situated in Administration. In Administration there are three work stations and two printers. In the Service Department there are three work stations and two printers and in the Spare Parts Department there are also three work stations but only one printer. The software used is called OMVI (Oldmans Motor Vehicle Information). This DOS based software has been particularly written for the dealership and is designed to record information on new and used motor vehicle sales, motor vehicle services and spare parts sales.
The Windows software package “Pay-Roll” allows people to put new employees on the pay-roll, terminate employees no longer required, and change details of a particular employee. The “Pay-Roll” software also allows the dealership to enter all banking details and look up year to date details. A 200 Gigabyte hard disk is used which should provide sufficient storage capacity for the next few years. It also contains a fully integrated system as well as a parts and service system. The business has two maintenance contracts, one with Fujitsu and the other with Oldmans."

Thank-you so much for your help :)

User interfaces = Windows & DOS
Correct on packages

Hello all. What kinds of application programming would be best for this:?

I recently purchased microsoft visual studio. I have done simple programming before on "Limnor" which is a code-less software design app and I think it is time to move up in the world. I want to create an application that can calculate and compile video and document files to meet clients needs. It is not as simple as them picking what files they would like as they will not know and rely on my expertise to do so (I will transfer this expertise into the app). The app has to do it all based on what information they enter, I thought that multiple answer questions would be the best option (besides from mailing info, members names etc). It has to also store the data on a database that the app can use later to avoid creating any one compilation for the same client more than once and to assist in creating new compilations. There will be some answers that will have to be typed in (this will be a very rare occurrence, such as a compilation that is highly tailored for an individual) in which case it will have to send me the details so I can compile the package by hand. The program then has to send me an email (or something similar) so I can verify they are a legitimate client. I want to be able to basically click "verify" and for the application to automatically sent them a request for payment. The app then has to check to confirm payment is made, send me a payment reference number (so I can check it against my payment gateway and/or bank statement) and also enter the payment details into my database. The app then has to create the compilation of files or send me details so I can compile it myself. It also had to make all of the following available; high quality video download, low quality video download, video streaming and document download. If the client choses they can send me a request for a hard copy of the compilation to be mailed. The app then has to delete the compilation after a specified period of weeks (which is obviously agreed upon before the purchase is made). I want to be able to randomly check that compilations are suitable for the clients as well to ensure quality service. (takes a breath) geez that almost sounds complicated :). I realize that I may have to make an online app, a downloadable app for the client and a separate app for me to store and view all the data. I also realize that I will have to do a bit of study to be able to do this but I am a fast learner and I am up to the task. Is it better to use visual for someone that is not proficient in code programming or should I wait until I learn code? Also what framework would best suit this type of app? Obviously I dont want someone to tell me how to make this app but rather to tell me what areas of programming I should research. I know this is a reallyyy longgg question so I thank you for taking the time to read it. ;)
