My husband and i have our main account through Navy federal credit union. (He set up our account in fort sill oklahoma) and i want to transfer funds to our navy fed account from our local bank in our home state. Basically what im saying is, i have money in our local bank, and i want it in our navy fed bank. But we dont have one around here where i am. Can i do this online somehow, transfer it from one bank to the other? Thank you!!
The Navy Federal Credit Union is a bank like any other bank, and has a routing number. You need that routing number (which would be available from them or from the MICR* number on the bottom of checks), and the account number. Once you have both of these pieces of information, go to your bank and ask them to transfer funds to your Navy account.
*MICR stands for Magnetically Incoded Character Recognition. The ink is magnetic and that is why a photostat of a check cannot be processed through machines that read the coded numbers.

Navy Fed is absolutely the worst bank I've ever dealt with. I have a loan with them that I am currently paying off still, I signed up for the payment protection plan that the loan rep informed me about, which entitled me to stop payment in case of job loss and other financial hardships. Unfortunately I ended up being unemployed for 2 months and informed NFCU about my employment status, "oh it's ok, you're protected by the payment protection clause" said the account manager, Mr. Sikander. Wouldn't you know I got a job a week later, and went to make an online payment, my online banking was deactivated. Due to seriously delinquent account was the reason. I called up NFCU and was told that I needed to pay off the entire loan balance to have my online banking priveledges restored. My loan was handed over to the collection agency and now my credit score is below 500. NFCU informed me that they've tried to contact me and make arrangements with me to pay the loan but I was not willing to cooperate. I in the meantime have never recieved or heard of any attempt to make arrangements. I informed the bank rep that I spoke to Mr. Sikander and he said I was under payment protection plan and that my status will be fine. They have no such record of that phone call, and on top of that, guess who calls me up the next day and tells me that I'm about to face legal issues for non pay? MR. SIKANDER!!! He claims to never have spoken to me ever!! I couldn't believe it. After I pay this loan off completely, I'm closing my account out and boycotting NFCU. I hope anyone reading this will take heed and join any other credit union or bank besides this total disgrace of a financial institute.
USAA is far better.
I am in US marine corps and have been banking with Navy Federal Credit Union, how ever I am about to finish my contract and unfortunatly navyfed dose not have any branches next to my house. So i need to chose another bank. I am thinking may be USAA becouse they are online and mail only. Or should I use something like Bank of America or Wells Fargo. Or do they reap you off ? I live in California btw, and only need bank for checking account I plan to keep my emergency found with vanguard money market account.
Any suggestions will help, Thank you.
Not-for-profit credit unions are the best financial institution around. You can set up direct deposit, and many of them belong to a network so you can use other ATMs at no cost. Branches are no big deal. Bank online with your credit union instead. It's safe, fast, and convenient. I agree with the other respondent that provided the link to a credit union locator. Talk with Navy Fed, too, since you already have a relationship there. Why mess up a good thing? They have tons of branches. Credit unions are not the profit-mongers that banks are. You'll find lower fees and better rates at a credit union.
2 days ago, i returned some headphones at Best Buy that cost me $325.00. The lady that was doing the return told me that the money would be transferred back to my card that i used, and that my card is not needed. She did however, scanned the headphones and provided me with a receipt that showed that return transaction. Next business day, i checked my account online, and the $325.00 was not returned. My bank is Navy Federal Credit Union. Is it normal for a store not to swipe your card when you return something? Sorry, new to these credit/debit card things. Thanks in advance.
Give it a few days. Don't lose the receipt in the meantime.

i bought a laptop on the 4th of this month and google checkout refunded my order because of security reasons. google emailed me saying that my refund may not appear on my credit card company for several days. i actually paid with a debit card, but it comes out paying with credit instead of debit. that's just how navy federal credit union rolls, but anyways, how long will it take for my refund to appear on my bank statement? i checked online and it's not pending yet. is it suppose to appear as pending? i contacted google about the whole refund thing and they emailed me back telling me the same thing. they refunded my order and i should be getting my money back depending on my credit card company.
It will appear on your statement the SAME day your credit union is notified of the refund. The question is how long Google Checkout's card processor will take to inform your credit union. The e-mail you have is the best answer you will find for that.
