I'm inheriting $300,000. I found a money market account online that pays 4% interest which is $12,000/yr. Divide that by 52 and that's $230. Would $230/wk be enough to live on. If it's not I could tap into some of the $300,000 in the money market account. If that won't work, what is the minimum amont of hours I would have to work at a minimum wage job? Sources? Any banks paying higher than 4%?
I don't think I legally have to buy house insurance do I? I'm trying to save as much money as possible by spending as less as possible. Do I need to get house insurance by law? I'd hate to waste all that money and never need it because a storm doesn't do any damage or little damage.
With NO rent or mortgage, MAYBE.
In your additional information, you asked if you legally have to buy home insurance. Not exactly. If you have a mortgage, the terms of the mortgage require you to keep the home insured. YOU gave the mortgage company the right to buy home insurance at YOUR expense if you do not maintain insurance. If you do not have a mortgage, no LAW requires you to insure your house, but common sense does.
