Internet Bank Usa

I'm trying to decide between Bank of the Internet USA and Ally Bank (formerly GMAC).
2.06 and 2.05 APY seem like the best out there right now. When I signed up for Apple Bank a few years ago it was over 5 APY and now it is 1.88%.

All banks peg their savings rate to one of the various federal reserve rates. As those rates change, so do the bank rates.

i have seen the bank has very high interest rate on saving, but i never heard of it before? It claims that the bank has FDIC certificate number, does that mean anything besides it exists in USA?Thanks

I have been a customer of BOI for about 3 years. They have excellent customer service, and so far I have had zero problems.

Their telephone system is fast & efficient, unlike many other banks. They are also very good with online banking; I do that quite regularly, and everything has gone well.

FDIC means that you are insured for up to $250,000 USD until end of 2009, when it reverts back to $100,000 USD. Most folks do not reach those levels, so I would not be concerned unless you intend to put in more than those amounts.

I paid a USA company urbandenimcompany.com via bank transfer over a month ago and after they received my bank transfer I have not heard back from them, they do not answer calls or respond to e-mails. I am very concerned as I it was alot of money and I am in South Africa so not sure what can be done to rectify this problem. How do I take legal action?

Internet banks usually have better rates because they have no overhead (branches, etc). The key is to make sure they are FDIC insured. I have used Netbank before for CDs and was very satisfied.

yes and no. You can download forms but these need to be signed and sometimes notarized. You also need to send in copies of identity documents. Some of it can be done online. You can not be anonymous to the bank. You can use a bank in a country with serious bank secrecy like Panama. see these web pages for offshore bank information:
