I use Compass Bank, have a regular checking account, and my online account access is free. I even get emails when new statements are ready. I've been using Compass for nearly 18 years (in fact, it's been so long, when I first got this account, the bank was called Central Bank of the South) and have never had a problem.
I have a Visa Check Card with Compass and I've never had a problem with it either.

I open up a account with compass bank online first. Then I went to the branch to fund the account, but I didnt have the number I was giving online. SO the guy told me to just let him open the account. I sign paperwork and deposit the money. Now I just got my check card in the mail and when I went to use it online it delined (what). I went to online banking and its showing the money but its not available. I call and they wouldnt let me speak to a Manager they told me I have inside the branch to find out why my account is froze. I'm lost and they will not tell me anything have my check going direct deposit after midnight. I'm about to lose my mind on this one. Hopfully someone can tell me what is going on and tell me what I need to do. PLEASE help!!!!!
Just go to the bank.
If you deposited it before 3 pm it will show up the next day. If it is after 3pm...it takes 24 hours for some banks.
I am not clear about what you allowed this guy to do. Did he open ANOTHER ACCOUNT FOR YOU or open the one you HAD!???? Maybe you got the card for a different account ...the one you forgot the number for.
Chances are...this is just a new account and the money is not available for 24 hours to make sure things are settled and passwords etc are secure. Same thing for when you deposit others personal checks...they hold them until they know they are good and then you can get the money for them after 24 hours.
It is just a security thing....go talk to them and stop freaking out.
I'm a student and was looking for a new bank closer to where I live now. My current bank is a home-town first bank and I experience ALOT of problems with my debit card getting declined simply bc they are "updating systems" despite the fact that I HAVE PLENTY of money in the account and have had the account for 2 years and have NEVER overdrafted or even come close.
Anyway, I applied online for compass for the "build your own" free checking and got approved. I chose cash back and interest on my balance as my two free premium services. It seems like a pretty good deal to me. But when I searched on here it seems alot of people have had problems out of them? But then again, alot of the "problems" were NSF fees and, in my opinion, that is not the banks fault it is the user's fault for acting irresponsibly with their account! So, from someone who is responsible with your money, how has your experience been with Compass?
you are 1005 on target -- you take care of your balance and it will take care of you -- good luck in school!!!
Hey guys, how many of you strictly bank online, by that, you do everything online, you don't even step foot inside of a bank. I just opened an account with compass bank for savings and checking, the lady tried to ask what was my mom's name for an equity. WTF.
I'm just so sick of the upselling, its just annoying, I'd rather deal with a machine and online than talk to another human being, its sad, but its just easier that way and I don't have to put up with stupid bs. Anyway, thanks for letting me rant, I'd like to hear how online banking has worked for you?
Yes that is how I bank. I have my pay checks directly deposited and I do all my banking online. I pay all my bills online and everything. It is so much easier than going into the bank and dealing with them.
After dealing with Compass Bank for over a year and them nickle and diming me to death I would like to change banks, I'm just unsure which bank would be the best to go with. I would prefer a bank that has excellent on-line banking services as I am a very busy person and use my debit card frequently. Compass Bank has (in my opinion) the worst of any online banking system I've seen, it seems they only update your information every 3-7 days and not instantly like other banks I've used and use. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think it is possible to find the BEST bank, but I have had a REALLY good experience with Bank of America over the past three + years. It could change tomorrow, but so far so good.

Compass bank online is a place many people choose to do their banking needs, as it’s a highly respected bank that offers exceptional internet banking as well.
The bank is actually a part of compass branches, which is centered in Alabama, and the bank has most of its locations in the southern US, in 6 different states.
In fact, it is one of the biggest twenty five banks in the country, and although it might not be one of the more popular banks that comes to mind, such as Chase or Bank of America, it definitely has a solid reputation, and if you do live in the southeast or southwest, you should consider them for your banking needs.
