So I got an internship and had to fill out a form for direct deposit. As it is suggested, I am suppose to get the routing number, account number etc. from my checks. No problem. I did just that.

However, 2 weeks into my job, I look back and noticed something:

On my checks my account number has 9 digits (e.g. 123456123), but whenever i go to deposit something or look at my statements online, it has 10 digits! (e.g. 0123456123).

I've written checks to people and they have cashed through. Did I screw up?

Probably not. We use different length strings for our account numbers for checks, EFT and ACH. That's leftover from when different code was written by different programmers everytime a new application came along.

Just check to see that the deposit occurs. Call the payroll department (incoming not the banks) if it doesn't and see if they can deposit it rather than return it,

i have a negative balance with chevy chase bank cuz i applied for some scam online and no wi cant afford to pay it off. i justo pened a new account at bank of america but chevy chase says if i dont pay any money there gonna report me tot he credit bureau when the account closes,what does this mean?

They could in the worst case scenario, report you to ChexSystems Inc. In which case, your name and SSN will be placed on a list for 5 years that makes it near impossible to open a checking account anywhere. The account you have would be closed and you will have to go to check cashing places and pay everything with money orders.

Be very careful. You don't want this to happen.

Hey, everyone,
I've just got an account in Chevy Chase and I am trying to apply for online banking system. One of stages of the registration demands me to fill in my SSN, but I am not a citizen of the USA, so I don't have it! They didn't ask me for SSN when I was applying for card though. What should I do to make it work? Is there a way to avoid SSN stage?

Open an account with a local bank,most offer online banking and can answer any questions you may have.
It also helps when you have a problem with your account.
