Its a scam.

If you are not specifically expecting an email, then just ignore it and delete it. Banks never send you anything like this through email, because there are so many scams based around banking its a rule they never break. They will never ask you for any personal details through email.

The best rule for these thing is that you have the smallest idea its a scam, or feel you need to ask, then its definately a scam :-)

Can somebody tell me HOW... how does a bank let you withdraw 60 bucks -- notice the withdraw of sixty bucks sandwiched between 3 overdraft charges ...

I recieved a check from a company in the mail. It's for a substancial amount of money and I've never heard of the business that sent it before. The company is called "A & R Oil Inc. T/A Triangle Shell" and the bank that it came through is called "BB&T" (Branch Banking and Trust Company).

My husband and I called the bank listed and they said to cash it after they confirmed that it was one of their checks. We called my bank to see if it was a scam and they said the only way you can tell is to try cashing it.

My step dad looked up the oil company online and they are listed in VA which is where the address on the check is listed as. I've tried calling their business line but no one answers (maybe because of weekend) and I plan on calling again tomorrow when they are more likely to be there.

I'm still nervous about cashing it and am usure of what to do.

What would you do?

I've had this happen to me. Go to Police Department and ask their advice. If you go ahead and deposit it, they may come looking for you.

Its good that you have done the things you have done so far. On Monday call them back again, and if you need to go to the police department and explain what happened.

Don't let yourself be guilty of fraud, or of being an accomplice.

I would like to make a purchase on Amazon for college textbooks, but l left my checks at home. There is a branch of my bank on campus, what will they do if I tell them my situation. I would like to buy some books online and amazon does not take money orders! I really don't want to bug my friends for a check either.....sadly, after afew years I don't have anyone that close to me that I would trust not to skrew up with money. =(
will they just give me afew of my checks?

Can you ask someone to mail you the checks, or do you live close enough to return to pick them up? Do you have a debit card, you can use it. I'm not sure about now but in past years there were banks that would give temp. checks, the only problem with that many places do not take them.

I want to open a higher yielding savings and checking account online and have came across several banks but dont know if they are really legit. So far I have heard of ing direct, hsbc, igobanking, and emigrantdirect. Right now igobanking has the highest rate at 3.08% APY for savings and 1.75% APY for checking. I want to go with one of these banks but dont know if they are really legit and can be trusted with my money and current checking account.
Does anyone have accounts with any of these online banks? If so please tell me about your experiences and if it is ok to join. Local branches rates totally suck. i only earn 4cents or less each month.

If they arent members of the FDIC... avoid them like the plague....

The have taken control of my firewall and turned it off. I can not even click onto my firewall or it will give me an error messege stating ( due to an unidentified problem, windows can not display windows firewall settings. I had antivirus i had zone alarm internet ez trust anti-virus, spy-bot,avg, spy sweeper and a few otrhers. this person remotely signs onto my computer while I am on it or not and changes my setting and emails my files out empties my recycling bin among a million other things. all the credit cards i've used online during that time are now maxed out. the money that was in my checking acount has been transfered to a branch that doesnt exist. The bank can't even explain it. Please someone help me ! The computer is how I operate my life and make part of my income, I refuse to allow this you know what hacker azz to control everything I say and do . Help !

All the damge hav already been done by them so there is nothing left for damaging any more. I would say to reinstall windows and use Macfee anti virus and Filewall. And DO NOT USE MORE THAN ONE ANTI VIRUS AND FIREWALL AND AVOID GIVING PERSONAL INFO ON THE NET.
