How to sign up for washington mutual online banking without SSN?

i went to one of the branches and asked them but they say i need to call custumer service and i did, but they say i need to go to the internet and it will tell me how to log in. but i cant even sign up!!!

i think i need to go to washington mutual again but i was just wondering if anyone knows how to sign up for SSN or ITIN??

1. You must have an SSN to open a bank account. To obtain SSN, you must be a US citizen or legal resident, or working on a temporary employment visa. US-born citizens' parents must obtain their child's SSN before the child turns 2 or the parents cannot claim them as a deduction on their tax returns. Legal immigrants must obtain SSN before they can start work, ditto for those on temporary employment visas. ITINs are for non-resident foreigners who have US income and must pay US taxes. ITINs are no longer issued to illegal aliens or others who are not authorized to to reside in the US or to obtain SSNs. So what are you doing here without SSN?

2. Washington Mutual went belly up months ago and was taken over by Chase.

Online Banking with Washington Mutual?

I've used Washington Mutual as my bank for over 5 years, but lately, I've been thinking of using their online bill-paying services. Does anyone else use them also? How reliable is the service? Have you had any problems? What about online security? Does anyone recommend a different bank? If so, why?

I have used Wamu for a year now, and my g/f has been using them for much longer. We both do online Bill Pay and the service is convenient, efficient, and best of all, free. Some other banks charge a monthly fee for the service (e.g. Wells Fargo).

There have been only one or two times when I found the site to be slow or unavailable. I was less happy with Wells, and can't speak for or against B of A.

The only complaint I have about online banking is that it makes it easy to NOT record your checks in a register, and so you may not know how much is in an account, and that could make you subject to overdrafts. Unfortunately, I speak from experience. Talk to your banker about overdraft protection to make sure this doesn't happen.

The web sites are secure, so your information is safe as it leaves your computer and makes its way to the bank. In all cases, whenever you enter sensitive information on the Web, make sure the URL (i.e. web address ... www-something) starts with "HTTPS". The "S" is for secure, and indicates that the information being transmitted is encrypted.

Washington Mutual online banking users? How do you re-order checks online? FAQ says you can

I'm on the washington mutual website and I can't find where you reorder checks through their website. I went to FAQ and it says of course you can, but offers no information as to where you would do so.
well, i wrote the help desk and they got back to me that you have go into your checking acct file and on the left hand side there's an "order checks" link. it worked, but it said it was charging me $20 and never said anything about reimbursing me, so i decided to go with an outside company, got 2 boxes of pretty checks for less than $10.00. And I don't have to worry about whether that $20 will get reimbursed. $20 a box! Some nerve!!!

I'm glad you answered your own question. I don't know any banks that don't charge for checks.
I find that sometimes the telephone works better then the web sites if you want a quick answer.

Can I delete Washington Mutual's online banking?

I've searched everywhere on their site and I cant seem to find the delete button. Any ideas?

Do you mean to cancel your account with them? I believe you have to either call them or send them a secure message. They may require you to write a letter, but get a hold of them first.

UK to end unlimited support for Northern Rock deposits in May ...

&Mdash; The British government said Wednesday that it will withdraw unlimited guarantees for depositors in mortgage lender Northern Rock in May as another step to prepare for the company's return to private ownership.

Northern Rock was the first British casualty of the global credit crisis, nearly collapsing before being taken over by the government in February 2008.

Beginning May 24, only deposits up to 50,000 pounds ($77,000) will be guaranteed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the same as for other U.K. banks.

On Jan. 1, Northern Rock was split into two companies: Northern Rock PLC, the retail operation; and Northern Rock (Asset Management) PLC, which holds the old company's riskiest assets and will not be accepting deposits or making new loans. The Asset Management company will remain in government ownership.
