I am looking to move all of my personal savings and checking accounts into a new bank because going to the small credit union I currently use is very inconvenient.
I want to find the best, preferably nationwide, bank for personal accounts. I live in TX, in The Colony but work in Carrollton and frequently go to DFW Airport for business. I have only about 50k in savings and want to start paying bills online. I would like free checking and ATMs too. I want a bank that isn't heavy on the fees and has good operating hours.
The banks I know that are in the area are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Century Bank, Washington Mutual and Chase.
Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated since I don't have the time to do my own research. Thanks in advance!
My vote is for Bank of America!

Hello! :)
I am thinking of starting a checking account. I will not be writing checks so much as I will just be despositing money, using the debit card, and checking my balance online. I may also link the checking account with an ING Direct account.
The 100 dollar minimum at Commerce does not bother me, I will not be going below that. :)
I'm worried about these things specifically:
Phony fees - I'm not talking about the fees in fine print, but the fees the bank might start charging you without having previously told you. This worries me, and I've heard stories from both banks.
Lost money - Again, heard stories from both banks, but people claim that their bank of chose lost their money/it disappeared from their account and they were unable to get it back. Is there any truth to these claims? My initial deposit will be alot. I don't want to lose it!
Which bank do you guys recommend?
By the way, I'm almost certainly not qualified for a credit union, just so you know :)
By the way, this will be my first bank account. Commerce is in a better location, but otherwise there's no difference.
I'm mostly afraid of getting ripped off for my money! Eep!
The main reason I'm not qualified for a credit union is because I literally have no credit history at all. :)
WAMU turned me down for a credit card, so they suck.
The funny thing is that their web form turned me down in like 10 seconds. Then I get a letter in the mail claiming I was turned down "after careful consideration".
What a bunch of losers.

I currently have an account at Washington Mutual. I use it but my parents fund it, for food, gas, etc. things that parents would pay. I want to open another account since i have my own personal savings on the side for personal expenses.
is it uncommon to have more than one debit card? Should i look for another bank besies WaMu to open 2nd account? what about online banks ie ING or Etrade Financial?
important considerations:
-interest rate not super important
-want to have simple, easy, depositing/withdrawing, few fees -lots of locations(in California) so i can withdraw/deposit from atms/locations w/o being charged
-care more about checking than savings
Thanks!!
NOT bank of america!!!

, The average age of a stock fund manager is a tad over 30. Now that I am in my 50s that makes me more than a little alarmed. I remember when I was young; when I was a dumb college kid.
Years ago disaster stalked me. At the time I was in my 20s, unaware of calamity until it was sprung upon me.
My dad and I motored towards the extreme end of Idaho’s Lake Coeur d’Alene.
After several arm-aching pulls on the starter cord we had the trolling engine sputtering along. We traced the outlines of the pristine bays and points along the southern shores.
It was a lazy afternoon; the calm before the storm. Over the rhythmic cough and choke of the outboard, from a distance of at least half a mile, I heard a squirrel skipping through the turquoise pines. How strange, I thought. I glanced towards shore and noticed an absolute deadness to the lake—a motionless mass of water stretching out like a giant sheet of stainless steel.
