in the email it claims that they have had to restrict certain things on their online banking because of fraudulant attempts to access peoples online accounts and that if i want to lift these restrictions on my account then i should log in to my account using the link on the email, however as far as i am aware i do not have an account with egg banking plc, however i do use online banking for other things. is this just a bogus email to try to find out personal info or do you think someone could of used my details to get an account? also the email came through to my bulk box where i tend to get a lot of junk emails rather than my inbox where i get my normal emails. thanks in advance to any replies x
This is a SCAM.
Check out the below link for confirmation of various scams, including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them.

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

There are several ways to find out if the link in your email is "bogus" or not. Click on the link and see if the address in the address bar is the correct address for their site. If you don't have one to compare it to try clicking on a random link on the page you were sent to. See if the addresses are anything alike.
9 times out of 10, if you don't have an account with the bank in question, then it's bogus. If you have a real concern about it try contacting someone on the site and forward the e-mail to them.

to snettert- why have you answered the same question 4 times? have you got nothing better to do? i posted the question 4 times in different topics because i wasnt sure of the best place to post the question to get reply's. also i am not unsafe on the computer, i never reply to emails like this i was just asking what peoples oppinions were on this site. also i think you will find i was very polite in my question so why are you answering in such an arrogant manner? there is no need to be cocky and impolite, this site is here for people to ask questions if you dont like it then dont bother going on here!
to wilfred b- i am not a troll, it is people like you that are trolls. i have not posted it in 5 different sections i have posted it in 4 and have explained my reasons for doing this. as i have said before this site is for asking questions, i have not said that i know the answer. i have never asked crude questions and i have never been as horrible in my reply's to people as you have now. if you dont have a proper answer then please do not answer my questions TROLL
and what are you on about 15 mins of fame. i hav'nt even got my real details on here to get fame for myself. thanks to all reasonable answers though. people like the two mentioned above make me mad grrrr
to wilfred b - that question wasnt like mine that was someone that has an email saying that they had won the lottery, completely different as that was offering money! also my rating for that reply was not bad at all, i actually had a good answer thumbs up for it! also if you want to spend all your time looking through all my answers and questions you will notice that i am never rude or nasty with my questions or replies unlike you! NOW PERHAPS ITS TIME FOR YOU TO GET OFF YOUR COMPUTER AND JOIN THE REAL WORLD INSTEAD OF COMING ON HERE AND INSULTING PEOPLE. GET SOME BALLS AND VENT YOUR FRUSTRATIONS IN LIFE FACE TO FACE WITH PEOPLE INSTEAD OF DOING IT ON HERE. ALSO IF THAT WAS AN ATTEMPT AT GUESSING MY REAL NAME, IT WAS COMPLETELY WRONG!
Don't use that link, its a scam. You should ring Egg and tell them about this email aswell.

You do not need to be panic.
This is one of the many ways spammers try to collect personal data, account access details etc. popularly known as phishing. (think of fishing with a bait!) This email is like a bait. Those people who really have a account and who are novice about online account may click on that link and landed on a duplicate/look-alike webpage and try to logs in with the real id and password. The bad-people on the other end will collect data that the user types and tries on the real site which they will misuse later.
Dont bother, it just delete.
Similar type of emails are also spread for popular banks, credit cards, Email Accounts like Yahoo! / Hotmail email accounts etc.

Ally Bank Relaunches “Kids” Ad Campaign | BankFiesta.com - Best ...
If you have seen and remember any banking commercial from 2009, chances are it was probably an Ally Bank ad. Since May of 2009, Ally Bank has been actively promoting the new bank through a number of media channels, including online, print and of course television. The next phase of the campaign will launch today and Ally has decided to continue the theme of using kids as their spokesperson. Ally will be starting the year with two new television commercials. The new ads, like the previous ones, will show children confronted by an adult who upsets and tricks them by offering deals with terms that may not be as clear as they first seem. The reaction you will see from the children is Ally’s attempt to represent how consumers feel when they experience such actions from other banks.
