Bank Of New York Online Banking

I just moved here from CA and am not familiar with banks here. I'm looking for one that has great online banking and features and many locations. Which one has it?

If you are in NYC or anywhere in the NY metro area its definately Chase. There is a branch every few blocks and all the Duane Reade drugstores have Chase ATMS. There is even a Chase ATM in my apartment building.

I have shares in Pepsico, Exxon Mobil, Lockheed Martin, Toyota Motor Corp, and General Electric. I purchased all of these shares direct from the company using the sites mentioned above. Is it smart to buy stocks direct or should I use an online broker? Buying direct saves on fees, but I have noticed it can take up to 10 business days for these to post on my account. Would it help me in the long run to use a broker.

a broker is sort of better but with my recent burns with stops and limits, I will NOT recommend a broker at this time.

i heard Washington Mutual is a nice bank with "free checking" please explain what that is... i never was charged for using my checking acount at my old bank

what about City Bank and Chase?

are there any other banks i should know about in NYC?

Washington Mutual has no service fees and they provide free checks for life. They may not be as convienent and Chase or Citibank, but they are more customer friendly.

And why? I had a local credit union I loved back in my hometown, but I don't want the restrictions of going through partner banks. I want:

lots of locations where I can take out money for free,

few / no hidden charges,

the latest in online bill payment / service,

and generally great customer service.

It seems it is impossible to find this information on the internet. I do not want to buy from online stores. Calling such banks as Chase and Bank of America did not help, they did not even know what I am talking about and transferred me around 10 times each before saying "we do not sell gold bars".

try MTB, Manfra, Tordella & Brookes, at 90 Broad Street, just down the street from the New York Stock Exchange.

they've been in business for 50+ years and they operate out of a basement vault off the lobby of an old Wall Street office building.

i still regularly buy silver and gold in person from them. if you pay cash you can take immediate delivery; if you pay by check there's a waiting period, but you lock in the price on the date of transaction.

my recent purchases have been 100-ounce and 10-ounce silver bars, 1-ounce American Silver Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, and Austrian Philharmonics; and 1-ounce coin gold Krugerrands, which, btw, is the *only* gold bullion of any form i would recommend, because they are the most recognized gold bullion in the world, and they come usually at the lowest premiums to the gold price. otherwise, you can buy all kinds of gold, silver, and other precious metals products there...

(btw, the regular banks know absolutely *nothing*...)
