What is the best bank for personal savings and checking accounts???

I am looking to move all of my personal savings and checking accounts into a new bank because going to the small credit union I currently use is very inconvenient.

I want to find the best, preferably nationwide, bank for personal accounts. I live in TX, in The Colony but work in Carrollton and frequently go to DFW Airport for business. I have only about 50k in savings and want to start paying bills online. I would like free checking and ATMs too. I want a bank that isn't heavy on the fees and has good operating hours.

The banks I know that are in the area are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Century Bank, Washington Mutual and Chase.

Any ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated since I don't have the time to do my own research. Thanks in advance!

My vote is for Bank of America!

im 17, and I want to open a Savings account, what bank is good for me? im thinking Wells Fargo?

I just want to save up for a new car and to have money around.

Is there any way possible i can do this online or in person at a bank alone

and which bank would be best for me.?
Wells fargo
banks of america
washington mutual
citibank

Anything..

First, you are under 18 so you need to find out if the bank will open an account for you alone without someone 18 yrs old.

Wells (To Corporate), BOA (They just don't care), Washington Mutual (They are being bought out so it's a bit much for a new, young customer) and Citibank (I have their credit card and don't know how the regular bank works).

I think a small local bank would be your best bet. They will be more personable and usually their are less costs.

I applied on bank of america online, does that mean I have an account already?

I applied online but they didn't tell me if I had an account or not. It just said that they would email me in the next 2 business days. I actually regret opening it, because afterwards I tried with washington mutual and I got the account. So now I don't want the debit card from bank of america, can I cancel by any chance?

Here is a thought.
Why not keep both accounts open?
That is if they do not charge fees.
That way you can see which bank you like better.
Always ask if there are any fees when closing accounts.
My bank charges $25 for closing an account by phone, but its free if you close it in person. Who knows why!!!

INDIA (CITIBANK & HDFC BANK) Credit card online payment acceptance policies for USA issued credit cards!?

Could anybody please let me know:
Does HDFC Bank,India & Citibank,India accepts online payments made from any USA Bank (Eg: Bank of America,American Express,Washington Mutual,Chase etc) issued Credit Cards ?

They should accept online payments from those banks, but its possible that they require some kind of international payment gateway to transfer the funds. I would advise you call those banks to see what their specific policies are regarding that issue.

Should I quit Wells Fargo and use Washington Mutual?

I'm really sick of wells fargo lately, their online banking SUCKS and purchases either don't show up for days or they show up, disappear, then show up later. Yeah I'm not too great with my finances but I'm really sick of their crappy service, so who should I switch to?! Around here we got Bank of America, Washington Mutual, and US Bank...I've heard a lot of good things about Washington Mutual...anyone use em?

As someone who works in the industry and a current Wells Fargo customer, I can say that Wells has much more services than Washington Mutual. Whether it's student loans, mortgages, secured credit cards, brokerage, insurance, grocery store branches or some other financial-related thing, if it's legal, Wells Fargo probably does it.

I've heard WaMu is more strict in reversing overdraft fees than Wells Fargo too (ex. WF does something like $100 per 6 mos. but WaMu's new account only waives one fee per year -- $25). And purchases using your debit card are all going to process the same, for the most part, no matter what bank you use. I try to always keep at least $100 in my account.

I like Wells Fargo because in California where I live, there's more ATM's than WaMu. And since I have my mortgage with them, they give me a checking account that waives fees at other ATM Since my credit isn't all that great, I started with a secured credit card, got upgraded to a normal one a year later and have been happy ever since.

I'd compare what WaMu or US Bank gives you that Wells doesn't, then go to Wells and see what they can do. Don't forget about credit unions either. They usually have really good rates (for auto loans) but not that many locations. It depends on the area you live in.

Wall Street denoting to Republicans | This and That Online Blog

February 24, 2010

Commercial banks and high-flying investment firms have shifted their political contributions toward Republicans in recent months amid harsh rhetoric from Democrats about fat bank profits, generous bonuses and stingy lending policies on Wall Street.

The wealthy securities and investment industry, for example, went from giving 2 to 1 to Democrats at the start of 2009 to providing almost half of its donations to Republicans by the end of the year, according to new data compiled for The Washington Post by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Commercial banks and their employees also returned to their traditional tilt in favor of the GOP after a brief dalliance with Democrats, giving nearly twice as much to Republicans during the last three months of 2009, the data show. At the same time, total political donations by the major banks and investment houses alike dropped in the waning months of that year.
