You should be able to with parent or guardian consent. But they will still have partial control on your account until you are 18.

Normally, when dealing with banks and overdraft fees, you simply just deposit more money into your account and it will automatically take care of it. When you put more money in your account, the bank takes out the money for any fees you owe and leaves the rest alone. Just make sure you put in enough to cover the fees. I live in S. Florida and I've been banking with Bank Atlantic for years now, but over the last couple months things have been rocky with them to say the least. They have been holding my $20.00 - $40.00 ATM deposits for 2 business days, even at the expense of my overdrawing my account and they have stopped making the typical $100.00 normally available to you when you deposit a check. The latest in this saga is they even went as far as to completely null a transaction where a deposit from a rental company was deducted from my bank account!!! When I say null, I mean the hold initially posted when the rental company took the funds from my account, but now that the rental (car) has been returned and the funds released back to me, the hold on my online bank statement completely disappeared and so did my refund from the rental company!!! I cannot believe the stress I am experiencing with this bank, especially after being with them for so long, then there are the rumors that they are going belly up. Is anyone having similar problems with this bank? I don't understand what is going on?!

Thanks Ibu Guru. You would not believe what they've done now! Hold and then force transactions so you end up overdrawn!!!! --You're right, I was dilly dallying... I HAVE to close the account NOW!!!
How long have you known this is going on? And you still haven't wised up and moved to a stronger bank? Wise up today, tomorrow is too late. And don't dilly-dally over depositing the check -- do an electronic transfer.
I opened a Totally Free Savings Account with Bank Atlantic earlier this month. I currently have $903 in the account. When I checked my balance online I noticed something that said Interest Rate (ITR): 0.050%. What does that mean. Is that a monthly interest rate? So if I have $1000 in the account at the end of the month they will add an additional $50? So if by next month I have $2000 they will add an extra $100? I'm getting back 1/20 of what I have in the account each month. Correct?
Can somebody help me understand this? I am just 15 and this is my first banking experience.

That is the interest per YEAR, not month
So, $2000 on deposit for a full year at 1/2% would earn you $10, for the entire year
