I currently have my checking accounts with the Abbott Laboratories Credit Union, which offers free online bill pay and that's just about it.
But, Bank of America and Chase probably offer the latest services to keep up with the technology advances. I have a paypal account, and I am closing my bank account due to the fact that i'm studying abroad for the next semester. If a customer does a chargeback, will paypal try to take the funds out of my closed bank account? what would happen? and could an online merchant obtain your name/address associated with your bank account?
The bank I worked for would pay the on-line merchant even if your account was closed, as long as it wasn't closed too long. It would put your account in the negative and charge mega-bucks in fees. We could never figure out how long the account needed to be closed in order for that not to happen. The bank cannot give out your address.
I am shopping for a home equity loan. The online banks seem to offer better rates. Are there any pitfalls associated with using an online bank instead of a local bank for a home equity loan
Online banks pretty much operate the same way as land-based banks. The main difference is that online banks typically have less overhead costs than a physical brick-and-mortar bank. These savings is then passed onto the consumers.
On the same token though, banks, both online and offline, are in business to make money. So, don't let your guard down, and keep researching and comparing for the best deal out there. Another thing to remember is that mortgage rates are dependent on indices, so timing is an important factor when taking out a new loan.
Today, I was trying to make an $87.97 online purchase for some running shoes; however, once I confirmed the transaction, it said that the transaction was not authorized, so I tried it again (roughly 4 times) and then called my bank, because each time it said they were unable to authorize it. My bank said they authorized the transactions, and to call FinishLine, which is the company that I made the transaction with. The reason they didn't authorize the transaction was because the billing/shipping address was different from that associated with my debit card, and bank info. They also said that it will show as a pending transaction for 3 business days on my bank statement, and then will disappear (money will not be deducted, I would assume, or they wouldnt collect funds since the purchase never went through due to the un authorization). I want to know if the money, $87.97 will be deducted from my account?? Because right now it still says pending, but the charge has been subtracted from my available balance... I'm very confused, because my account balance is at what it should be, without the charge.. will this pending transaction go away???? Needless to say, I will not be getting the shoes like I intended because FinishLIne did not authorize, I just do not want them to take my money when the transaction was never completed.. PLEASE HELP!! I WOULD LOVE FEEDBACKK!!!
Pending Charges just means that Finish Line made a request through your bank for the funds for the purchase. This will show up as pending for a few days, while a transaction is pending the money will be shown as being deducted from your account. If they are refunding the money, the pending transaction will disappear (as they are saying) from your account in about 3 business days. The money will not be taken from your account. My bank does the exact same thing. If the transaction does clear your account (i.e. the money is taken from your account) you need to call Finish Line and your bank to get it taken care of. But unless that happens, just watch your account for the next 3 days. I've gone through the same thing, be patient.
