I've been trying to ring Alliance and Leicester and been round and round in circles on the automatic system without finding the answer I need, and no option to speak to an actual person.

The first clue that your account has been 'hijacked' is when you are unable to log-in (the criminal changes your 'log-in' password and email details as soon as they get access)
If you recently clicked on a link in an email ... perhaps one that said something like "We are going to close your account unless you log in immediately .." then it's almost 100% sure you have been hijacked ..

Has anyone else been blocked from using their internet banking by Alliance & Leicester until you install their free "optional" security software "Rapport"?
I have today, with no advanced notification, and it will take 3 days from installing the software to get access to my account again.
Contact your bank urgently for confirmation. Many Alliance & Leicester scam e-mails circulating.
Rapport is a genuine bank security software, but my bank NatWest offers it only as an option

if a cheque was going to come out of my account tomorrow, is it possible the funds would be missing from my account now, even though the cheque isnt showing on my account???
It is possible, I seem to remember having a similar situation some time ago. What I would do is check your account again tomorrow, if the amount has come out twice then get on to them ASAP and remember it is New Years eve on Monday so do it early.
this mainly applies to alliance and Leicster, I know it sounds dumb but it's really important I know and if it does cost how much?

The Versatile Authentication Server supports all leading industry standards and is augmented by patented technology such as Dynamic Signatures. Using their EMV card and a Todos’ eCode reader, consumers can use their PIN code to securely sign internet banking transactions. An additional layer of security can be provided by displaying transaction details on the reader, so that users “sign what they see”, thwarting in particular “man in the browser” attacks. Over the coming months Todos will be integrated with Gemalto’s Identification and Access Management business line.
