1st Internet Bank

I have my checking account with WaMu, and now that Chase took over they dropped their savings account interest rate from 4% to 1%. Bank of Internet currently has a 3.51% interest rate with no maintenance fees or minimum balance. Has anyone used them before? Are transfers to and from external accounts free? I'm just a little nervous about transferring a large sum of money to a bank I've never heard of, so I'm looking to see if anyone has had any experience with them. Thanks!

I don't have an account with them, but I'm considering opening one - that's how I found this question. In my research, I'm finding mostly stock related articles, but they do look promising. They are publicly traded, so that is a plus. I'm seriously considering moving there but keeping my old account active with the idea I can always transfer funds back if necessary, but I don't see any reason why it should be necessary unless they go the way of NetBank. BTW, I also had an account at NetBank years ago and when the government shut them down, they moved my funds seamlessly to ING Direct, which has been good, but ING doesn't offer paper check writing and that's the only reason I'm leaving them. I like them otherwise.

I am foreign to Bahama but would like to open a checking or savings account in the Bahamas without actually traveling there. Any one know of any Bahamian Banks which will (1) OPEN AN ACCOUNT VIA INTERNET and (2) will allow MONITORING OF ACCTS. VIA INTERNET? yes -- on most bills that come out of you checking account they will arrive in plenty of time to protest in case something is wrong on the bill and it should state on the bill that "on such and such date your account will be credit a set amount

I have a checking account and I pay my bills online last month they charged me $ 1.95 for "Internet Banking" so is there a Bank that doesnt charge for Internet Banking? or are all Banks charge you for Internet Banking which i guess means paying your bills online.

My bank doesn't charge fee for online banking and all my bills are paid online. I suggest you look at other banks in your area and examine the fees.

It should satisfy the conditions..
1. ATM : More number of ATMs. Can use other bank's ATMs at free of cost (or) with nominal service charge.
2. Internet banking .
3. No hidden service charges.
4. Lowest minimum balance.
5. Any Branch Banking (ABB).
6. Lowest service charges.

SBI.. no doubt in it.. It is largest bank in India also.
1. You can use all ATMs of State bank of Mysore, Trivandram, etc.,
2. Internet banking is at free of cost
3. No hidden charges like new generation banks.
4. Minimum balance is Rs.1000 only.
5. ABB is possible at selected branches
5. Reasonable charges only.

In addition you can avail DMAT account.

Disadvantagegs :
1. Since the bank people are very slow in work and careless about customers, you have to wait in a long queue.
2.More over you have to go with an introducer (should have account in SBI) to open SB account.

Conclusion:
Though there are some disadvantages, SBI is the best bank to open SB account when comparing with other banks.
