My credit score 747. My school loans, car loans, dept cards, etc are all paid off. I have one open credit card maxed to 9000 on Citi mastercard. My Visa is up to 3400, I asked for 4000 more credit line. Why was I declined? They told me some bs because I was too high on my CitiMc. I don't believe this. Anyone else go through the same thing?
A credit increase can be declined because of your debt to credit ratio. In other words, if you currently have a total allowed credit of $20,000, but you owe $19,000 on all of your credit cards, then you only have $1,000 available. (95% owed, 5% free) This is NOT a good thing when it comes to requesting more credit. It would be better if you had $10,000 owed and $10,000 available (50% owed, 50% free)...THEN they would grant you more credit (but then again, you probably wouldn't NEED it at that time either now, would you? ROFL! ....but that's how it works!

I would stay away from that card. Sounds like they charge a lot of fees for what they offer. There are better cards out there. Shop around. You could always save up some money and get a secured Visa.
Chances are that if your stuck with a Salute Visa it is because you have poor or no credit. In most cases when you are in either situation, credit card companies are not quick to increase your limits.

I was reading some information on the Internet (on my bank's website) about a secured visa credit card. It says that after 18 months, they may be able to continue my card membership without requiring me to secure my credit line including I manage my credit responsibly for the 18 months. What does this mean? That's the only part of this I am co nfused about. I never had a credit card before in my life and am considering this to build up a good credit score once I get enough money to put into savings account and have the minimum required in the account. At this rate that may take a while but I plan on paying off the card as soon as I get the bill, including I even charge anything. I would like the credit card for in case of an emergency, even if I only have a $300 credit limit.
Securing a line of credit means putting up collateral.
A secured credit card such as you are talking about requires a cash collateral deposit that becomes the credit line for that account. For example, if you put $500 in the account; you can charge up to $500.
You would do this to build up a credit rating; i.e. a good history of payments on a secured card reporting to the credit reporting agencies will qualify you, in time, for unsecured credit cards.
They say 5,000 but someone said you can actually have less of a credit line and still get the gold card. Anyone know if this is true?
Nope.
