Never taken out a loan, and have had one credit card for the last three years, so I am a complete novice when it comes to all these bank terms. For what it's worth, I bank with USBank.
Anyways, I need a new computer, for which I don't have the funds. I looked around on the USBank website, and found two options that looked interesting: Personal Loan, and Premier Line if Credit.
About the loan: How does that work? Does the money go into one of my accounts (I have checking, savings, and a Visa with them)? Or is it managed like an account of it's own?
About the credit line: Is it really hard to get approved? Should I just apply for another credit card?
I know I should just go to my bank and ask, but I would like to get to know more first, and see if anyone has any experiences they can share. Thank you!
Well your best bet, depending on your credit score would be to go to the bank and request a personal loan. When they ask how much, tell them how much you want your computer to be. They are gonna wanna know what you want the money for too.
With a personal loan, they would either write you a check or deposit the money in your bank account, but the loan itself would have a different account number and you would have monthly payments with an interest rate. Once that is paid off, you are done.
I believe a Premier line of credit is something that they give you with a credit limit and you make monthly payments, but it's a revolving line so you keep using it over and over.
Depending on where you want your computer from, you can possibly skip this entire process and finance through the computer place. For example Dell offers their own financing and you would just pay them like you pay your credit card bill. Once a month. However, if you got a loan thru US Bank, I'm sure the interest rate would be a lot lower.
You could also consider opening another credit card with US bank and buying it that way, but you would have to look at the rate and see where you would get the better deal.
Good luck

ok here is my huge problem, im trying to consilidate my bills so i can buy a house, I have a truck payment that is 355.00 for 4 more years, my interest rate is like 10 percent, I owe 14000 on it but i have 2000 saved up so lets say i owe 12000 since thats going to the truck. My bank cant refinance it casue i owe so much on it, but they are trying to get me to sign up for this premier line of credit that i know nothing about, its like a credit card, but i wont use the card, its attached to my bank account and i can transfer the money to my checking and pay it off at the bank i currently have the loan with. It says the interest rate is 8 percent but could go up and down in the time, i dont know if i should risk it or not, the lady at the bank said, if i pay 300 a month then it will be paid off in the 4 years, so i mean would this be a good thing to do for my situation, its making me so depressed, that my truck depreciated so much in 2 years, please help
Never EVER do any type of loan that has a variable interest rate. It is 8 percent today...but with our not so wonderful economy..could(and most likely) will be like 16% tomorrow. If they can't offer you a fixed interest rate, don't do it.
I have had the card for more than a year now. They promised with good payment history, they will increase your credit limit. They deny me a credit limit increase on my current card, yet they keep sending me pre-approved offers for credit cards with them. I would have to apply for a new line of credit and get another card half eaten in fees already. The operator told me I am guaranteed a new credit card under the same conditions and that my chances were better getting a new card than an increase. I refused. I want to close this card as they charged me the annual fee a month early, then lied about being on the previous billing statement (it wasn't)-thereby adding a late payment fee. The fee was waived, but how would my credit be affected if I close this account? It hasn't improved my credit and I pay the balance in full monthly. Can I get another credit card that is good for people trying to rebuild their credit?
I would speak to them again about your situation, and then if things don't change, report them to the BBB, and attorney general in the state where the card originates from etc.. They are a ripoff, and they usually prey on people with bad credit, and people seeking to improve their credit. They know that most people will just give up, and not report them, so that how they get away will all the wrong they do to people. The only way to combat this is for everyone that has been wronged to file a class action law suit. Other than that, I would pay what ever money and fees you owe, get it in writing, send it via certified mail/signature, and tell them you are closing your account. Then try to find another reputable credit card service. Be careful, closing your account can pull your score down. So, just think about what you want to do first and then make a decision. Good luck.

New Credit Card Tricks, Traps, and 79.9% APRs
The card industry is at it again, devising new tricks and traps to disguise the cost of its products and avoid price competition. Unfortunately, this was exactly what I predicted in the wake of the Credit CARD Act. I was a vocal supporter of the Credit CARD Act, but I also viewed it as a missed opportunity. Congress focused on prohibiting particular abusive credit card practices, but left the door wide open for the card industry to put all of its ingenuity to work devising new substitute practices. Far better if Congress had taken up a regulatory model that permitted card issuers to charge only certain specified types of fees (at whatever level).
Now, even before most of the Credit CARD Act's provisions have gone effective, a new report from the Center for Responsible Lending finds that the card industry has already invented a new bunch of tricks and traps. (I'm still waiting to see an issuer implement my personal candidate--the "high risk transaction security fee"--which could be applied to pretty much any transaction the issuer wants to deem high risk.)
