Has anyone taken on-line college courses and graduated?

I see a lot of ads for University of Phoenix and so many other online course for a Master Degree in business and other fields. Was wondering if anyone had any success with on-line courses. What college did you attend? Did they help you with employment? How did you transfer your credits from other colleges? Did it make you more marketable? What degree did you end up with? I have a Business Administration Degree B.S. Degree. Would like something in Business but would rather concentrate in one area. Any ideas would be great. I live in the Orlando Florida area. Thanx.

My friend is going for his masters of criminal justice at U of Phoenix. He really does not like it that much. He said it is a lot more expensive than if he went to another college, it sucks because there is no campus near him and he has to do all online communication, sometimes you need that face to face, and the classes are only 8 weeks and he feels that he needs more time, like a full semester. I didn't know they had campuses, but he said they do and are expanding too.

StraighterLine Student Talks About Online College Courses

A StraighterLine student describes her experiences using online college courses to get the college credit needed for her degree

My daughter has a learning disability, but she desperately wants to go to college. Are there classes on-line?

My daughter has a learning disability but wants to go to college. She wants to be accomplished. Community College will accept her in "not for credit" classes, but will not matriculate her into any "credit" courses. This girl is SO motivated to learn, and has done exceptionally above what one might expect.

Are there courses on-line that offer real life college credit that might accept her and let her try? I'm not talking algebra or physics. Maybe something cultural or maybe something in personality or psychology. She would need an advisor and an advance at your own pace type of program.

She completed a course in sign language after graduating from home school high school. Yes she has some limitations, but the bar isn't welded to the post yet. I think she could be successful if she had the luxuries of time and encouragement.

She has a lovely job in a consignment store and likes working with people. I'm a little unversed in legitimate on-line learning programs. Ideas?

Many colleges are now offering online classes. While your still bound to the time restriction of a semester it certainly allows someone to learn at their own pace.

With a valid GED I'm honestly shocked your local community college won't allow her to enroll for classes. While some classes require a certain score on placement testing, other than that there should be no barriers. I even had a high school student in one of my recent biology classes, so a GED may not even be required.

My first question would be, how high on the ladder did you go to enroll her? Did you simply see a teacher who was acting as an advisor or have an appointment with the admissions office? I could see some teacher, upon hearing learning disability, saying she couldn't attend based on ignorance.

I would call again and remind them of Title II of the Federal American with Disabilites Act (I'll link below) It addresses Educational Institutions and they are not allowed to deny access based on a disability.

If you are still rebuffed take it directly to the college president, they are notorious for bending to complaints, if you have to threaten to write the local media, the last thing they want is bad press.

Your daughter has a right to education regardless of her disability, and should be judged on her ability to perform. Unless she is unable to complete the requirements of a class she should be allowed to take them. Good luck.

Have you gotten your degree online? Have you taken on line courses for credit. Please advise.

I am in the process of enrolling in an on line school. I work full time and I am single mom so it seems the best option if not the only option. What has been your experience? I plan on taking 16-20 credits for 2 semesters? Is this DO-ABLE. I can really buckle down.I don't socialize much or party. I don't want to burn myself out how much studying is required for these courses? It is a state college and I'm sure it wont be a walk in the park. Any help is appreciated.

16-20 semester hours is a pretty heavy courseload online or on campus. It's especially heavy for someone that works for a living and has a family to take care of.

You can expect that a 16 hour load will require 16 hours per week of active class time PLUS about 32 hours of reading, study, coursework, papers, etc... That's well over 40 hours per week. Imagine for a moment - 5 classes all want a 10-page paper this coming Monday before midnight and 2 of those are planning a test Monday too. Each of your 5 classes also expect you to participate in two discussion threads... can you say "exhausted". ☺

Online courses have the advantage of location (you don't have to travel to campus) and time (you can do your work anytime) but they still require the same material and often a bit more work since nobody will be lecturing - you'll have to really read the texts. Plenty of papers seem to be the norm as opposed to multiple guess tests.

I find 12 hours per semester of online classes to be more than enough work to keep me busy. Remember, it does no good to get in a hurry to finish if your GPA suffers or you burn out as a result.

Military promotion points for Civilian Education College Credits - anyone know where I can find some?

I need just a few more promotion points to get above the cut off score to make E-5 Sergeant. So a couple of easy (hopefully cheap) on-line college courses I can have assessed for promotion points, which I can do when I have the time would be of great help. Anyone know of any such courses?

I used the information on

http://www.promotion-points.com/

to learn that there are about fifty (50) FREE on-line US Government courses that count for college credits, that can be converted to military promotion points (1 College credit = 1.5 promotion points Army; & 1 C.C. = 1 P.P. for Marines, Navy &Coast Guard. )

You can do them on your own - when you have time!

Any distance learning programs or on-line schools that offer individual college courses?

I need to take for the summer a business course, "Operations Management" and I want to find an institution that offers or supports continuing education credits where I can transfer those credits to the University that I am currently at. I am aware of the well-known schools like Devry and the University of Phoenix, but are there any others (inexpensive)?

Athabasca University in western Canada does. Here is the link if you want it..
