If I have an ecommerce website, and someone from Europe wants to use a credit card to pay for the product, will that be any different from accepting credit cards from people in the United States? I plan on using Visa, Mastercard, AE, and possibly Discover card as payment options. I am using authorize.net as my gateway. Thanks for the help!
It's no different from accepting US based credit cards. The most important thing to know is that foreign credit cards do not support AVS or CVV and this means you have no means to verify if the credit card is legitimate or or not. This increases your likelihood of fraud especially considering the international orders are high risk anyway.
Basically if you're going to accept international be careful as your risk goes up significantly. Also, be sure to notify your merchant account provider that you intend to accept international orders as they may not allow that. This will prevent them from freezing your account and holding your money.
Authorize.Net shouldn't matter but it turns out they do. They apparently have an issue with handling AVS from Canada and the UK. If you plan to accept orders from there you should make sure you don't have Authorize.Net set to decline orders that Fail AVS automatically.
Now you can start accepting credit cards, visa, mastercard, and discover. No credit checks, no deposit, no equipment fees, purchase or rentals ...
I have a $2500 credit limit. I am a student and have a job. Last month I requested for a credit line increase of $500 for a BofA card. I got it instantly but I need to increase it another $500 just to pay this month's rent. I will be paying most of the card off in mid-September because that is when I will be getting my money. Will I be able to get the increase? Is it better to call the credit card people or request it online and see if I get it instantly? Should I tell them about this (rent payment and will be paying it off in mid-September so need it on a temporary basis)? I have paid $500 just 2 days ago, bought a ticket for $500 and then paid another $350 back today. Will that help at all? I have paid all bills on time (min. payment) and sporadically paid $250 or some higher than minimum amount. I have never been late on any payments whether it be the credit card or a water biIl. it best to call and request it? Rent is due by 3rd September. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!
Had the card for about 9 months now. I do have another cc with a $2000 that is almost full too. I had to pay summer fees with that but am slowly paying it off.
You just got an increase. Does your financial situation improve such as your salary increase? You can try but I doubt that you will have another increase so soon.
The credit card company is closed today, which is Sunday, the same day I applied. I am going to call tomorrow and see if they will let me cancel. Does anyone know if they will let me cancel this card before it gets sent out to me.
You have to call to activate it. Don't call the activation line, and be sure to shred your credit card up or cut it with scissors.
Is it possible to do without a merchant account?

I would like to have my line of credit put at around $7G though, to avoid going over 2/3 of my full line of credit. From your experience, what companies are the best for transactions like this?
Chase and American Express if you qualify. They both have 0% APR rates for 12 months on purchases and 2.99 APR on balance transfers. Both are reputed lenders and so will not be easy getting an approval.
Chase Freedom
Amex Blue or Blue Cash
Capital one and B of A are scumbags. Easy to get approved, higher interest rates.
Go through your bank where you have a checking/savings account if you do not hold a credit card with them already.
Good luck.
Paul Skidmore: Credit card fees hurt retailers, customers
Regarding the Dec. 18 article "Credit card fees draw fire," I sympathize with small retailers struggling in the recession. But when it comes to credit card fees, the retailers' "solution" is to shift the burden to low- and middle-income shoppers.
Unfair!
According to news reports, national retail organizations are funding a multi-million dollar lobbying and public relations campaign to push Congress to lower the "interchange rate," the fee stores pay to banks when a customer makes a credit card purchase.
The interchange fee covers banks' and credit unions' costs for marketing, processing, customer service, collections and instant payment when the card is swiped - and for swallowing the expense of credit card defaults, which are running at more than 10 percent of credit card balances nationally.
Accepting Credit Cards Advantages « card credit merchant processing
Processing allows the following advantage for all types of customers. The impulsive customer who just visits your site and gets interested in it, wants to buy the items you sell. Another type of customers is the international customer who may be visiting your site from overseas. For both these customers if you say the payment is only through the cash or cheque then you may be losing lots of customers. On the other hand if you say you accept credit cards over the internet. Most reputed companies let you offer online and you get a response within 24 hours of your application.
