Merrill Lynch Financial Advisor Question?

I am looking at the Financial Advisor position at Merrill Lynch. Are you required to have a Series 7 & 66 before you can even apply? Any current reps with some feedback about the position?

It all depends. In order to take the Series 7 & 66 you must obtain sponsorship for the Series 7 exam through employment at a FINRA member firm or a self-regulatory organization (SRO). Some firms if they like your resume and want to hire you they will sponsor you. However their are some places that require you to have your Series 7 & 66 before you apply.

What's a average salary as a financial advisor at Merrill Lynch?

I am a current advisor at another Financial Firm in the San Francisco and considering of changing companies. I have been working at my current company for a little over 3 years and have done okay, during my course at the company, I was promoted as Manager about 7 months ago, though the pay was not like I had expected. What is an expect pay at Merrill for someone with my experience?

Base Pay: $36,000 - $80,000 /Year

What types of clients do Merrill Lynch financial advisers seek out?

In general what types of clients do Merrill Lynch seek out. I spoke with an adviser and he said that they don't accept clients who won't bring in 100k initially. He also said on average his clients come with about 500k. What types of people have this kind of money? Do they include older middle class, upper middle class, or strictly the upper end such as doctors, lawyers, big managers, and business owners?

The rich. few doctors, lawyers and working people have that kind of money. It is great work if you can find it.

I am interested in taking a Financial Advisor Position with Merrill Lynch in Houston?

I saw the position on careerbuilder this past week. It states they give a "generous" base salary and on some of the board here Ive seen they are commission only. Which one is it. I am considering quitting my current dead end job but want to make sure I have security. I am a recent college graduate with sales experience.....If you are currently working for Merrill Lynch or similar investment firm I would appreciate some clarification...Thanks

Hey, I'm a broker.

If you do it, remember that the Salary will slowly diminish after a year or so, and will need to be replaced with your commissions.

Your job will be, basically, to call people all day long and talk to them about their money and try and set appointments with them to get them to invest.

Cold Call Cold Call cold Call

It is a tough job, and requires a lot of work.

Good Luck

Does anybody know what happens if you quit the Merrill Lynch/Morgan Stanley Financial Advisor program without?

completing it. Do you owe them money?

That really depends on the situation. You must read your contract very carefully. Typically there are reprecussions if you choose to leave in order to join a competitor. If you are struggling as an Advisor and come to the realization that it isn't the career for you, then that is another story. I would suggest discussing that question with a branch manager.
