Financial Adivsor:
A college education is required for financial analysts and strongly preferred for personal financial advisors. Most companies require financial analysts to have at least a bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, statistics, or finance. Coursework in statistics, economics, and business is required, and knowledge of accounting policies and procedures, corporate budgeting, and financial analysis methods is recommended. A master of business administration is desirable. Advanced courses in options pricing or bond valuation and knowledge of risk management are also suggested.

I will be taking the aptitude test in a few weeks for Merrill Lynch. What does it consist of, and what kind of questions can I expect? What should I review?
Thanks!
I have not taken the Merrill Lynch test, however I do hire advisors.
There may be a math section, which would include a number of word problems.
There is a personality assessment. This will test your expectations, work habits, confidence and ethics.
It is also possible that they may ask about your warm market and your length in the community.
To be honest, answer the questions with conviction, however do not lie. Working as an advisor takes commitment, disapline and atleast 50-60 hours of productive work a week.
Also, this is a sales position, expect to call and prospect for clients during most of the day.
What do you mean by Financial Advisor open house? Are you going as a potential investor who will be using their service or someone who is looking to work for them?
To receive answers that might be helpful, one has to state their questions more clearly.
Best wishes.
Voters Want More Regulation for Financial Planners
The Financial Planning Coalition is made up of three industry organizations: the Certified Financial Planning Board of Standards, the Financial Planning Association and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors. It collaborated with the Global Strategy Group to do an online survey in January of 404 voters in the Washington, D.C. area. “We are fiercely advocating the pro-consumer aspect of regulation,” Marilyn Mohrman-Gillis, managing and public policy director for the CFP Board said in an interview. “We wanted to demonstrate that there is public support for pro-consumer regulation.”
In conjunction with the survey, the coalition put its key findings in a letter to the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs urging lawmakers to back their longtime goal of establishing federal oversight of all professionals who practice financial planning. “There is broad support for the regulations proposed by the Financial Planning Coalition, which would include provisions to ensure that financial planners pass tests measuring competency, establish ethical guidelines for the industry and discipline financial planners who fail to follow these set regulations,” according to the letter. “We urge you to introduce language directing the formation of a financial planning oversight board in upcoming financial reform legislation. New standards to increase the requirements for becoming a licensed financial planner will help reduce current unethical practices, and protect consumers and their hard-earned investments.” Last November, Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.), chairman of the committee, introduced financial reform legislation. It has not come before the full Senate.
Job Personality Tests Employers Give: Do They Count?
With more than 10% or 30 million Americans out of work and more getting laid off every day more Americans are honing in on their job seeking skills to nail the perfect job.
While there are dozens of resources to perfect a resume, and dress for the job you want, job personality tests are often overlooked but they do count.
Personality Tests Employers Give
Most employers give personality tests to see if a potential candidate would be a good fit for the job. According to Essortment.com, in an article entitled "Job Personality Tests," "Companies want to insure that they are getting the best candidate for the job by weeding out possible problems that they might encounter in the long run." In other words, a company does not want to spend hundreds of dollars training a potential candidate that is ultimately not the right fit for the job.
