What is the most important thing that you look for in searching for a financial advisor?

I am the founder of the startup, http://www.fabeetle.com. As part of our on going research we are trying to understand how individuals search for financial advisors when they decide that they need one. Is the most important thing to you location, designation, age, gender, etc. Likely it is many of these and in that case in what order are they important?

I would say someone can do the following:
1- Compiling data for financial reports.
2- Analysing social and economic data.
3- Examining market conditions.
4- Working with detailed financial records.
5- Creating statistical diagrams and charts.
6- Be able to advice on financial matters.
7- Making investment presentations.

Find a Financial Advisor

Better gives you tips to finding a financial advisor you can trust.

I'm looking for a remote (or online) financial advisor.?

After checking many Financial Advisor search websites, I have determined that there are no good financial advisors in my area, so, I am looking for a remote (online) financial advisor that is licensed to practice in California.

Most financial planners I have called, either: (1) do not return my phone calls. (2) do not want to offer remote financial advice, or (3) require a minimum net worth of more than 500K (which I do not have).

I need to be able to correspond with the financial advisor by email and phone. Any documents and information that a financial advisor normally needs, I can send by email.

I need a financial advisor that can advise me on retirement planning, tax planning, and possibly estate planning.

If anyone knows how I can find a financial planner to help me, please let me know.

Thanks

maybe your bank can help you

Where can I start a search for a good personal financial advisor? Someone who can help with taxes, finances?

I am looking for someone who can give me all around advice on taxes, retirement, investing...who can take a look at my money, bills and help me move from there...Middle class, late 30's need help! Indianapolis, Indiana

The first place to always look is with either your bank or your insurance company. Both will usually have a financial advisor within the company that can work with you one-on-one, and since you already use them, most likely the services will be free.

Is it possible to pass a credit background search for a job in the financial sector, if you have collections?

I have bad credit and collections out against me but really want a job as a financial advisor, is it possible to get licensed?

Depends on the circumstances. If it's a $10 magazine subscription that you refused to pay and went to collections, probably wont affect you. If it's a repoed car , foreclosed house, and an outstanding $20k judgment against you then odds are you aren't getting the job even if you have a stellar academic and professional credentials under your belt.

What is the best place to search for hourly fee based financial planners / investment advisors?

What is the best place to search for hourly fee based financial planners / investment advisors?

I don't work for the company but did years ago. But there are other firms beside this one that have the same services offered. My advice is that you take the time to 'interview' different places and go with the one that you feel most comfortable with. That is the key, if you aren't able to relax and open up to someone, move on to the next one. With that being said...
I would recommend that you find a local Edward Jones Investment office. (They are everywhere around the suburbs of major cities)
They are great when it comes to people that can help you with the management of ones assets.
The best part is that they can help you put away money that will help you in the long run. The best part is they don't have hourly fees. Something the company enforces.
However, they aren't the place that you want to go if you wanted to buy stocks. That isn't their expertise. They may claim to be, but trust me they aren't-
Look on the internet for their site, or google Edward Jones Investments. On there you can even look for an office near you.

John Quiggin » Greece: Haven't we seen this movie before

My piece in today’s Fin compares Greece with some Australian states who also play games to conceal debt. The emerging news ( also in today’s NY Times ) is that the same banks who facilitate the dodgy debt deals established a CDS market for Greek sovereign debt and some have large short positions (translated from marketspeak: they are betting that the deals they set up will go bad and Greece will default). This can of course be defended as insurance, but it obviously changes your relationship with your bank or financial advisor if they can steer you into a deal and then bet on its failure. The potential for moral hazard in the CDS market has yet to be fully explored, but I think we will get to find out the hard way before too long.
