Northwestern Mutual is who it is with...their presentation was immaculate...that's a given though. So, what would be the down side of getting a job as a financial adviser for this company?
You will be pressured to sell things to customers who won't need, or fully understand the risks involved with a particular product.

I was offered to be a financial Advisor with Ameriprise a.k.a American Express. Is this a good job? Are there any people out there who are Financial Advisors who could give me a bit more information about it? This is a huge company, but I'm not so sure about the selling/cold calls if I will have to do anything like that or if they supply you with leads, clients etc. Any info you have would be great! Thanks!
Everyone is offered the opportunity to be a Financial Adviser with Ameriprise. You will work very hard (after you get your7) for a very long period of time selling - if you can hang in there, you could be very successful (as with any career, I suppose) - I had the opportunity "offered" to me 10 years ago when it was American Express - I had my license and they wanted me right away - but I was already at another firm doing the same thing, so I politely declined. I then went to work at a discount firm and then an on-line trading firm - a good portion of people that come into my training classes come from Ameriprise and Edward Jones....the turnover rate for those organizations (as well as other sales organizations I suppose) is very high.
I have worked in the Finance/Mortgage industry for the past 5 years as a loan processor, working mainly with financial advisors and their clients.
I also have my license to originate mortgages in the state of IL.
I would like to become a financial advisor and I know I have certifications that I need to get, but do I get them on my own or from an employer?
**ALSO- I don't want to do ANY cold calling, who is a good US nationwide company that hires financial advisers and provides warm leads/clients?? Thanks!
You can practice as an independent financial advisor which allows for recommendation of products from any source.
Alternatively , you can function as a commission based advisor or as a fee-based advisor !

Looking for a good corp. culture maybe Prudential or Met, etc. Not really a balls to the wall kinda atmosphere. Who gives the best leads? Who's easiest to leave later on w/ your clients? What's a decent (average) time until 150k+ salary? This is for a beginner in the industry but not the subject matter. I'm also trying to compare the time it takes to make 150k to a couple of other jobs. Thanks.
As a beginner financial advisor, you won't make anywhere near 150K. First you need to find some company that will hire you. And then you will need to find clients that will trust your judgment with their money. Not easy.
“A Wall Street Week Of Biblical Proportions
With Talk Of An Impending Financial Armageddon, The Gov't Takes Unprecedented Action. But Where Will It Lead?” News article
So at first, I consulted one of my financial ad visor’s associate Joel and here’s what he predicted:
'They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will be treated as a thing unclean. Their silver and gold will not be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath. It will not satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs, for it has caused them to stumble into sin. “ What? money would have no value?
I was a bit baffled when he said that so I consulted then my advisor all that was a while back and here’s what he said:
“Stop storing up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume, and where thieves break in and steal.....keep your eye simple.... Then he continued and said:
“On the earth anguish of nations, not knowing the way out . . . while men become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth.”—
Therefore I asked “ what kind of treasures should I store up that won’t give me anxieties ? What do you think his answer was? Do you find some truth in this advice?

Psalms 37:19
Remember: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Psalms 23:1 The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. Psalms 24:1 In layman's terms, because the Lord is my shepherd I have need of nothing, because he owns everything. The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof. This is why the Apostle could say. "But my God shall supply all of your needs, according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" Philippians 4:19
