Can anybody give me advice on being a Financial Advisor.?

I want to become a financial advisor but have no relevant qualifications or experience.
I have trained staff in retail for 3 years and that's about it.

I am told that there are opportunities out there to become trainee advisors. Does anybody know of any.

Also for those that do this job how tough is it.

I'm mentally very strong and know it will be extremely hard work but will do whatever it takes and it would be good to hear someones perspective who has this roll.

What are the pros and cons?

Do you have any tips on generating client databases etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You have to take the regs exam for the Securities and Investment Institute any one working under the FSA has to take it, go to www.7city.com they do the books, it doesnt take long I done mine in 10 days. I'm a Stockbroker so from here its different your best of taking the exam then applying for trainee roles as you will have to take further exams that last if i'm correct 3 hours these are multiple choice but fairly hard as you'll obviously be advising people on important financial matters.

Also check the sii website for info! There are a few different types of FA tied and independant. Good luck you'll need strong sales skills as this is a sales role you will be selling financial products on a consultative basis!

If you want a good book to read on improving you rapport building and sales skills etc "The Brokers Edge" by Steven Drozdeck! Written by a stockbroker for stockbrokers but it also covers all types of sales roles this book is the bloody bible mate. If it dont help you nothing will!! Get it on Amazon have to wait for it as its fairly old but its worth it!

Good luck mate

EDIT!
O you will have to be liscensed by the FSA so you need to comply with certain criteria! No seriously adverse credit ratings. Criminal records or unpaid tax bills etc. Basically once you find a company who want you, they apply for your liscense on your behalf. The FSA take into account these and give a answer! So if you are a covicted axe murderer forget working in a FSA Regulated and complient role.

is their any complaints about University of Phoenix aid?

are their any complaints about University Of Phoenix financial aid staff, I heard that they are slow for giving you your money, but fast on getting their tution money, mines in my account just sitting , i call my advisor she's never there

Most of the courses that the "school" offers do not transfer as the equivalent course that the college in which you plan on transferring offers. Ex: Economics 101 at university of Phoenix transfers to Arizona State as a non-elective or elective. Most of the courses University of Phoenix offers transfer as non-electives. Plus they are expensive.

I am the PERSONAL ASSISTANT of a FINANCIAL ADVISER of a BROKERAGE FIRM and today he and I have a lunch date.?

I went through a staffing agency to get this job. I haven't started working for him yet. This is the 2nd interview. They offered me the position in the interview but explained that this is the process. My recruiter told me that I was the only one asked to come back for a 2nd interview. I know I already have the job unless I do something incredibly stupid like order alcohol and get wasted. But my question is, what do I talk about? I feel very nervous. PLEASE HELP. I need pointers. Any details would help and be greatly appreciated.

I'd prepare to ask some questions about the job / position to show that you have a real interest in the job / business. I'm a VP at a financial firm and really like it when a candidate is interested in the business and not just landing a job and collecting a paycheck. You might want to ask about:

What he does on a day-today basis? (ie. What is a typical day for him?)
Who his clients are and how he gets new clients?
What takes place at a meeting with a client?
How many Financial Advisors there are in the office?

Bottom line is that it is a lunch interview. Prepare to talk about work and not personal stuff.

Testimonial letters Ideas?

My boss is a small independent financial Advisor. We are trying to get ideas how on how to ask his top/happy clients to write him a testimonial letter. we feel nervous just asking them. We were thinking of saying its from his staff as an appreciation for being in the business for so many years. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just be honest and ask. If you make up some sort of lie, somebody will probably let it go that it is a lie and then his happy clients won't be happy anymore.

Are you glad that the American economy is so strong because of Bush's policies?

In a news conference this morning George Bush said the US economy is "strong and growing." Sure more people are losing their homes and jobs than at any time since the great depression, there have actually been "runs on the banks" for the first time since 1929, 47,000,000 Americans don't have health care coverage (and that number grows with every new layoff), and more and more Americans can't even afford to drive to work or (more likely) to look for a job...

But those people are just whiners, says John McCain's chief financial advisor, Phil Graham, who remains on McCain's advisory staff.

The economy's in great shape, and John McCain will keep it that way by continuing and even increasing Bush's corporate welfare programs and tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

Isn't it time for us to quit whining, and stand up and cheer for McCain's and Bush's economic policies that have worked out so very well for all of us?
Jeff - Of course Congress approved Bush's proposals. For the first six years of his Presidency the Republican controlled Congress approved virtually everything that Bush did, without question. So you're right, they share some of the responsibility for the mess we're in.
Tough Guy - Glad for you that you're not down on your luck, but some day if you are, I will be happy for a few of my tax dollars to go to helping you and your family. - And that messed up Congress was under total Republican control until 2006, and even now the Democrats don't have a controlling majority and Republicans are blocking many of the things they try to accomplish - and fix.
Semper-P and others - To suggest that the economic troubles we're having started just two years ago when the Democrats took over Congress with a very small, NON-veto-proof majority - well, even you have to see the absurdity of that statement.

Yeah thank goodness that those Bush tax cuts made the dollar value so strong.

Anyone who blames the democrats who have been in office only 2 years with only a slight majority instead of a majority that will allow them to bypass a veto is delusional.
Dollar values started to fall in 2001 not 2006. And Republicans are STILL claiming the problem is oil shortage so they don't have to take responsibility for their irresponsible monetary policy from 2000 to 2006.

PETER TRAVES CORPORATE DIRECTOR STAFFORDSHIRE LOCAL AUTHORITY ...

Peter Traves will not deal with complaints, does not care about the law with data protection , allows his staff to ignore child protection concerns, falsify reports , and and tell lies.

Below are some links about this man who thinks he is untouchable and that his local authority do not have to be held accountable.

Child protection in Staffordshire

Some weeks ago we sent a child protection referral to Staffordshire county council following the chief inspector’s report into the forcible strip searching and videoing of a child in Werrington prison. I got reply. Apparently the council doesn’t think it has to bother to investigate properly because the threshold of harm has not been crossed. Forcibly stripping a child is, according the child protection experts in Staffordshire, a legal and proportionate response. We can all rest happy that the child did not, I am comfortingly told, sustain any physical injuries. There is no discussion about whether he was traumatised or felt that he had been assaulted or even sexually assaulted.
