Resident in Perth County falls for online scam | London | News ...
Police say a Perth County resident was scammed out of $40,000 cash in hopes of obtaining a large inheritance.
Perth County OPP said the resident contacted police Monday to report the scam where money was sent overseas last fall.
“The resident enjoyed communicating by means of a legitimate online website with other supposed like minded people,” said Const. Kees Wijnands in a press release, adding the resident developed a “trust relationship” with one of the people he was blogging.
”The blogger convinced the resident that he could be an agent to receive an ‘inheritance’ from a deceased person in Europe. The resident was told that this process would save the family of the deceased an extraordinary amount of tax. All that was required was to send almost $6000 by wire in order to transfer a certificate to inherit the money from a lady in Europe.”
