Entry Level Financial Advisor

It is interesting, is the a base salary or is it strictly commision. it there is a base salary, how much is it? details please!

I don't know, I've heard some complaints about Ameriprise and their FA program. You should look into Raymond James. They have 5 different programs (ranging in levels of independence), but sounds like you would want to be an FA paid by them - like a regular employee.

my friend is an attorney and she's going on an interview on Thursday and has no idea what the salary range is... help.

entry level salaries tend to be around $50k for big firms

with financial advisor positions though, I'd expect it to be much less and more based on comissions / bringing in assets.

Yes you can become an entry-level FA. But, you should have some sort of experience on your resume.

Any type of sales experience would be helpful. If you're majoring in finance, that's also positive. Demostrated knowledge of the financial markets is also good.

Also, you could consider getting summer or part-time work with a FA. That'd give you a better sense of the job. Looks great on a resume. That FA could also then eventually get you that first real job.

Does your parents work with a FA? That person could be a good resource. At least, that person could give you an information interview.

Pay, work environment, comparing to other similar jobs in other companies, reputation, etc

I assumme you are referring to licensed stock brokers orr those who are in training to pass the series seven. I was very proud and did a good job for my clients. I worked for Dean Witter, a thorougly respected firm and was making good money aftr my first year. You must choose which company to work for carefully. There exists many "boiler rooms" where the brokers make big commissions agressively selling poor investments o people who dont knowv any better. I dont knnow about ametriprise., but a little research will tell you they are the defendents in various security fraud cases in the tens of millions...Good luck....

I've been offered two interviews for two separate banking/financing companies. First Investors as well as Ameriprise Financial.

I've checked salary.com and to no avail came up empty handed. I was wondering if you or do you know of anyone working in this industry and if so do you know what entry-level may expect as far as salary. Also, do you have any idea about how much one has the potential to make?

I'm also located in Houston, Texas.

dont expect much of a salary at all, its mainly commission, or all commission, you may get a small salary as a base or maybe just at first, but alot of these jobs end up as pure commission, which can also mean you make alot of money if it works out for you, i know several people making well over 6 figures,but they are very good
