I just graduated college and have a good part time job. I make pretty decent money and am trying to keep my bills low but I do have rent utilities and a phone bill. I dont know if I should transfer to a low interest card or 0% interest card for 12 months or get a personal loan or call credit counseling or what to do. I wont be able to make very big payments possibly up to 200 a month. My card right now has over $300 minimum payments. What should I do???? HELP!
I was in the same situation. Over $30,000.00 in debt but had it paid off in less then 3 years. What you want to do is go through your credit card statements and organize them by highest interest rate to lowest interest rate. You want to get rid of the highest interest rate bills first. What I did was roll then over to another credit card but with a lower interest rate, no annual fee and no transfer fee. Same thing with your bank. See if they have low interest rate personal loans so you are able to pay off your credit cards.
*Remember pay your bills on time....I make it a habit (if I do have the funds) to pay the bill the next day after I recieve it.
*Pay a little extra.......bill for $83.00 make it out to $90.00
*Most importantly* KEEP ON TOP OF YOUR LEDGER. I don't use that little register the bank gives you with checks. I use a spiral notebook. I divid each page with DATE, DISCRIPTION, -, +, =. Document everything and ALWAYS round up for Debits and round down for Deposits. That way you will be saving money without knowing it.
For months my ledger said I was hundreds of dollars negitive....but when I get my bank statment I actually had thousands in the bank. I saved money while I squashed out all my debt. Good Luck!! Oh - NEVER FILE BANKRUPTSY!!

Not credit counseling, but debt consolidation loan. Can't find any good info on the web, so your educated opinion would be helpful. What are credit requirements, home equity requirement, debt service ratio and other factors?
If you know a good resource that would be very helpful as well!!
Thanks.
I get this question all the time as a senior loan officer for a large mortgage brokerage firm. Credit requirements are a little tighter now, but there are still lender who will offer to consolidate your debt if you have the following:
1. Credit score of 680 or higher.
2. Debt to income ratio of 45% or lower (if CR score is higher, then ratio can be higher)
3. Home loan to value can be as high as 95%

I have about 25000 of debt but can still pay montlhy payments on time and never missed a payment...if I try to get a personal loan from say lendingtree.com as opposed to a debt management program which looks better to creditors?? My beacon score is around 650-670....I am going to a credit counseling agency to see what they think....they are HUD approved and non-profit. I still have some assets stocks and bonds totaling 6000...I do get paid consistently and been trying some internet surveys to make some small money on the side to my job. What things should I look for at the credit counseling agency? Such as if they are legit or not in my situation?

I am not referring to a consolidation loan, I am refer to the services that take your bills and lump them into one monthly sum. If you have had a good experience, which company did you use?
Oh my god, are you going to get some spam on this question... Consumer credit Counseling is a non-profit. They are very good...They have contracts with all of the credit card companies that provide much lower rates.
Avoid the companies that state that they will negotiate your balances down, they will ruin your credit and will take much longer. Plus the credit card companies will still come after you anyway....
By the Way.....Jesse K and October G are examples of the spam I was reffering to.....
My husband and I just began credit counseling this month in order to get our credit card debt from when we were in college under control before our credit was totally ruined. Anyways, now it looks like by husband is going to get a decent promotion but it is going to require us to move. We currently rent but we have been figuring out that it will be cheaper for us to buy a house in the area we are planning on moving to that it would be to rent a decent house. My question is…is it even possible to get a home loan while in credit counseling? His credit score is just over 600 and mine is in the mid 600s. This would be our first house and we are in Texas if that makes a difference. We would need a loan of about $90,000 with our gross income being about $65,000 per year.
Yes you can get a loan while in cccs. Keep at it you're on the right path!! Talk to your counselor they can recommend a local lender to help you continue the right way.
