I owe Chase credit card a lot of money. I went through one Credit counseling agency who never made my pymts on time and Chase threatened to drop me from the program. I then tried to pay the card on my own and could not. Then I joined another company who charged me over $500 per month to take care of the one credit card. Anyway Chase turned me over to one collection agency and now another. The man from the second collection agency has called me at work, on my cell, screaming at me saying I have refused to pay. I told him it would be taken care of but not at this time. He then resorted to call my sister in law who he lied to and told her we put her down as a reference. I didn't put anyone down as a reference. I still do not know how he even got her phone number. Is the legal? I have recently joined with another Credit counselingagency to take care of the debt. I told the man this but he still said I was refusing to pay and they WOULD garnish my wages. HELP!!!!!
Stay off the phone with this jerk! The next time he calls just hang up on him.
Write a limited cease and desist letter basically saying " All communications must be sent through the U.S. Postal Service as any and all telephone calls are inconvenient." This scum is then allowed to contact you one more time to say that they received you letter. If they telephone you again he is in violation of the law. Make sure that you send this letter by certified mail so that you have a record.
If you send a full cease and desist letter you are asking to be sued as you are not giving them any kind of recourse in contacting you. Since you are in a program to pay back this debt I would not worry about them garnishing my wages.

I am only 20 years old, I have 4 collections (that I know of) and all of my bills are at least 6 months behind. I have over $10,000 in student loans (but I'm still going to school). Which company would be the best for me?

I have some bills that need payed off and I have one credit card. My question is if I go or contact a Credit counselor or Debt help business(Careone credit, debt relief agency) will they freeze my credit card account or put it on hold? My debt situation is not bad, but I've heard that if you seek help through a business that specializes in credit card debt or collections, they will freeze all of your credit cards. I am slowly building up my credit and I would hate to have them take my card away. Is this true? Any one that has or has had this problem or knows the facts please let me know some options.....Thanks!!!!
when you go through a agency such as consumer credit counseling, you are not allowed to use your credit cards or obtain any new debt. This is not the law or anything, just the rules of the agency. Also most of those agencies are able to get you lower interest and such because they don't pay your bills for 3 months making you 3months late on all your bills. And most of the time when you are 3 months late, the credit card company won't allow you to use your cards.
I am looking to consolidate my debt, its around $4000, excluding my school loans, which are deferred since I am still attending school. Where can I go to get things straightened out? I have around $1000 in medical bills and $800 in a wireless bill the rest are credit card bills. Is there anything I can do about the medical bills since I now have insurance? Any help/advice is much appreciate. You can spare the lectures, and the rude comments. I am trying to turn my life around, Thank You!
Credit councelling is a good move, just make sure its legitimate by the goverment. It should be free.
Consolidation and negotiation scams are increasing.
Google the name of the company first followed by the word complaint.
They take your money and do nothing for you.
Look up consumer credit councelling in the phone book - not on the net.
You can also get a book called credit repair for dummies.
It tells you what these companies (legitimate ones) do, and you can do it yourself.

I have numerous old credit card debts that have been sold to collection agencies. (About $4,000). These are from when I graduated from college and became unemployed over six years. I kept paying some of them, but on others, the statute of limitations has run (it's four years in California).
I am able to pay off this debt fairly quickly now and would like to begin repairing my credit. Once these are paid I want to make sure that this information appears on my credit report.
I want to pay off all those where the statute of limitations hasn't run, but don't know where to begin. I got a credit report online, but the information is pretty vague, you can't tell when the last time I paid was on any of them.
I'd like to find someone who works on this type of thing, but don't know who to turn to. It seems as though Credit Counseling agencies only work with people whose debt still lies with the credit card companies.
First of all, never pay a collection agency unless you have no other option . THey are all crooks.
You need to read up on your state laws and the FCRA and FDCPA.
Pull all three credit reports and compare them. Find any violations and document them for a lawsuit later. Free money.
Some dummy keeps saying that contacting CAs, or whoever will reset the seven year limit that a baddie stays on your report.
That is not true. Making a payment on a debt can reset the SOL, but, unless you bring the account current, the seven years starts from the date of delinquency where the account was never brought current afterwards +180 days.
You can also negotiate a PFD (Pay for delete) with the Collection Agencies. Make sure you get it in writing.
Educate yourself before you do anything!
Effective Solutions to Debt Problems: Paying Off Debt with a Debt ...
Paying off debt more quickly is a priority for any family that isn't able to keep up with the monthly repayment schedule. Personal circumstances can change quickly due to unemployment, poor health or even divorce and this leaves less disposable income to pay the bills. It is necessary to reach an agreement with creditors to pay a reduced sum of money each month so that the repayments can be sustained until the outstanding balance is completely cleared.
Solutions to Debt ProblemsThere are several solutions to debt, including a debt settlement program and debt management plan, that can help to improve affordability and reduce the principal. An intermediary will negotiate with creditors, thus eliminating any of the stress and worry associated with the restructuring of debt. Whilst a consumer debt relief program will result in a lower credit score for up to 7 years, it is better than the alternative. Most people already have a low credit score before they enter a debt free solution.
