I just applied for a household Platinum credit card through HSBC website and gave them by checking account numbers to take the 19 $ processing fee and now I am worried has anyone had this card before?

Household is indeed a legitimate credit card, however I have never paid any fees for my cards. But sometimes they offer different deals to people in different credit situations. Don't worry about it they are legit

What is the average household credit card debt in the US?

WAY too much...I pay off my cards in full every month. I carry no balance and pay no interest. And with my Discover Card I actually earn points that translate into real money. DON'T use a creadit card unless you can pay the bill in full.

when applying for a credit card, for household income do i put my moms income too?

im 18, live at home and want to apply for a credit card, my mom pays for just about everything. i have a small job, im pretty much self employed, but i alone dont pay for my living expenses.

***i plan to use this card to build my credit history not to borrow money i cannot afford to pay back, btw.
i have talked with my mom, and we plan to use it within my family to make purchases that we would make with regular cash, just to build my credit.

Household implies everyone who lives under the same roof. So if you live with your mother, you include your and your mother's income on the application.

You might want to tell her that you're applying for a credit card, and explain to her that you will be responsible when using it.

There is something very wrong with your statement "not to borrow money i cannot afford to pay back" however. It's not about borrowing and "affording" to pay back. It's about not borrowing money that you don't already have.

For example, if you make $300 a month, you COULD borrow $10,000 and still "afford" to pay it back -- with monthly payments, and for a very long time. But that's the wrong way to do it. Think of the card the same way you think of cash -- only charge what you can pay back right away, not what you could "afford" to pay back over time or in the future.

Make sure you're getting an unsecured credit card that has no annual fees. Easiest ones to get are those marketed to college students (you are going to college, aren't you?) from any large financial institution. Check the link for an example. Good luck.

Can a person apply for a credit card if household income is unknown?

The rest of the household is very private about finances.

You can apply but you better have OTHER SOURCES (alimony, child support, allowance, etc) of income to provide as proof of you having some kind of money to pay, otherwise they will deny you. The only other choise is getting a Secured Credit Card. Where you place money in a bank account and your credit limit is the amount that you put in the bank (you cant use the money in the account though, its basically collateral). If you seek a Secured one get it from a well known bank though like Bank of America. They have a lot of banks and companies that offer them but they tack on huge fees. Like for a $200 card after they apply their various assorted fees your credit limit will be $50. Large reputable banks however may only charge you a $40 annual fee for the card.

  • What is the Average Household Credit Card Debt?

One of the tricky things about averages is that it’s hard to make an apples to apples comparison. If you’re 25 and have $5,000 in credit card debt, is that good or bad? It’s certainly worse than having no credit card debt, but what if you’re responsible for providing for a family? A single person with $5,000 in debt is “worse” than a family with $5,000 in debt, all in one person’s name, right? It’s questions like these that make the whole “average credit card debt” question, and others like it, so tricky. The Federal Reserve publishes a Survey of Consumer Finances every three years, the last Survey of Consumer Finances was done in 2007...
