I read somewhere on Yahoo! answers that gas cards are not reported towards your credit history is that true?

They do I have gas credit cards and have seen my credit report.
So the other information was false.

I have student loans on my credit report and an auto loan on my credit. But I keep getting denied for a store credit card or a gas credit card. I have never owned any Visa or Mastercard type credit cards. I have never actually owned ANY credit card. Mervyn's denied me because "LACK OF CREDIT". Dillard's denied me because of "LACK OF REVOLVING ACCOUNT INFORMATION" and "DELINQUENCY ADVERSE PUBLIC RECORD OR COLLECTION". Yes, I know my credit isn't perfect and I made a few mistakes a few years ago. But for 5 years I have not had any new problems put on my credit report. So why can't I get a store credit card????

you are being told you have no credit. you are not being told you have bad credit. denile because of no credit means they want proof that you can be trusted. in order to gain credit you have to get a regular credit card-you don't have to use it just having one shows that you can be trusted. same thing when you go for a loan. get a card use it once pay it then cut the card and you will have all the credit you need.

I just got a credit card and I was having a discussion with a friend about it and telling her that we were going to use the credit card (starting out anyways) every time we go get gas for our cars or the lawnmower. She said that you should never use a regular credit card on gas because it was a commodity and that I should get a gas credit card if I wanted to do that. Can someone explain the reasoning behind this to me?
Do you think maybe she was referring to the difference in APRs (in non-gas versus gas credit cards)?

There's no reason for not using your 'regular' credit card for gasoline purchases. But you can definitely benefit more if you used a 'gas' credit card. Since you can earn rebates / cash back every time you used a gasoline card, you can (in effect) lower your overall gas costs with one of these offers. TIP: You might consider using 2 credit cards instead of one. Use your regular credit card (with lower APR) for long-term purchases you can't payoff right away. This way, you pay less on interest while you carry the balance.

Use a reward credit card (ie. gasoline card) as your second credit card and only charge things you can pay off quickly. Even if the reward card has a higher APR, if you pay it off the balance each month-- you'll avoid the extra interest and earn rewards for your card usage!

You know when you pay sears card payments inside the store can I do it with chevron gas card? Can I pay at any chevron gas station or do I have to mail the payment?

Sears stores are owned by Sears Corporation. Chevron is a franchise owned by individuals business owners who pay Chevron a royalty fee to use Chevron's name. You have to either mail it in or pay online. I dont have a Chevron card but I am 99.99% sure they will accept online payments.

The Discover Open Road Card (formerly known as the discover gas card) or the Citi Driver's Edge Options Platinum Select Card are two of the best gas credit card. They both offer up to 6% cash back on gas at any gas station and 1% on everything else.
