Will I Get Approved for a CIBC Student Credit Card?

Around 7 months ago I got into quite a financial mess. In the end I ended up missing my credit card minimum payments about 3 times or so. Since 4 or so months ago I caught myself up, paid what I owed from the missed payments all at once, and havn't paid any payments late since then. Actually pay them earlier than the due date.

I also had a incorrect report on my credit profile. Best Buy's credit card company had kept reporting me as not paying my balance for 60, 90, 120 days, when in fact I paid that credit card in FULL almost a year ago. Finally they reported me as a collection charge-off, and that's when I called them and they got that removed, and changed it to account settled in full.

I'm thinking of applying for a small student credit card, from CIBC. Since I am a full-time student, and having a small credit card can come in handy sometimes. (I don't have the credit cards I mentioned above anymore, I just pay them down, they're not in use).

What are my chances of getting approved for the $500 Student Card? I don't want to apply & then get declined again.

Thing is, I got laid-off from my summer job, and now i'm unemployed until I start school next month, when I start my part-time job at the hospital there. So right now I have nothing to put in the employment information section of my credit application.

Without a reason to believe you can repay a debt no lender is going to be able to make any kind of loan or credit offer.

What is the difference between a debit card or a credit card?

I live in Canada. I have this red CIBC card that says "convenience card." How do I know if it is a credit or debit card? Is there any charges if i use them? I never used the cards before. I have a premium grown account. I am 16 if that matters. CIBC is a bank in canada.

A debit card is a card that is connected to your bank account. Every time you use it, money is deducted from your bank account. A credit card is a card that banks issues to you. You can use the card whenever you need to and the bank will send you a statement to pay after the cycle ends. It's more like borrowing a loan from a bank where you need to pay at least the minimum amount every month. Since you're only 16, your card must be a debit card. In the United States, you need to be at least 18 to qualify to apply for a credit card.

I just got approved for a $500 credit card from CIBC, does that mean I would get approved for a $2000 loan?

I got approved for a $500 bare bones basic credit card 2 months ago, its balance is about $480 but it's paid and I put a $50 payment on it last month. I now need a small loan of $2000 for travel for a family emergency, am I right in assuming there's a good chance I will be approved for this loan? I am employed.

No. If the credit card company thought you were good for $2000, you would have gotten a $2000 credit limit. You got a $500 credit limit.

i used my credit card last month for the first time, when should the bill come in (CANADIAN RES USING CIBC)?

i am banking with cibc and this is my first credit card and first purchase with it. when should i expect the bill to come in? i ordered something online using paypal on june 6th .. should it be here soon?

You should expect it sometime after they mail it. Contact the credit card company. They can give you a much better estimate of the billing cycle than anybody here could.

I want a student credit card, can I? I'm a IELP student ,and I can pay cash pledge for it, and which bank in Canada can do it? It seems that CIBC student Credit card needs a citizen, but I'm not.

I just want to know if there is any bank in Canada that I can get the credit ? I'm a foreign student ,no a citizen of Canada, and I'm study in IELP. It seems that CIBC can't ,because they say

Thank you very much! :-)

The minimum credit limit allotted to you is $500 and if you are not satisfied with the credit line which is allotted then you can request the bank to raise your credit line. One should always note a point that the bank reviews one’s account at regular intervals and if one makes the payment of the balances of purchases in full on time than the bank on its own increase ones credit limit without the request being forwarded to him.
