Thinking about getting the Chase Freedom Credit Card? Do you really get 1% back and 3% on groceries? Do you get money back at the end of the Year or each month? Or is it like Discover card where not everyone takes the card and you don't see the rebate for 12 months?
Where is it accepted? Is it a Visa / Mastercard?
I have the Chase Freedom Card and as someone else already mentioned the card is accepted anywhere that accpets Visa.
The Cash back rewards are awesome. Read the fine print but there's really nothing in there that'll get you caught up.
You get 1% on all purchases. You get an additional 2% on the 3 categories where spend the most each month. One thing about the special categories is that you get rewards on $600 max so the most you can earn in Bonus rewards is $12/ billing cycle. The thing with the categories is that it depends on how the merchant categorizes the transaction. For example when I use the card at 7-11 it actually shows up as a vehicle expense. You get money back when you request it. You can request it as a credit to your account but if you request it as a check you actually get $250 for every $200 in cash back rewards. I don't know what you mean by Discover not giving you the rebate for 12 months. My Discover card lets me take the cash back when I reach $20.
I got my Chase Freedom card some time in March 2008. By end of 2008 I had $400 and Chase sent me 2 checks for $250 each. So far this year I have over $400 in cahs back rewards so by the end of the year I expect to have perhaps as much as $600.
Also, there is a way to use your CC so that you don't pay finance charges and still get cash back rewards. I've been making $$ off my credit cards for about 5 yrs now.

I recently got a chase debit card, and they sign me up to get a chase freedom visa credit card. .My friend has that card and her limit is $3500. . .but she does have credit just a american express card but she's only a second card holder, as for me im 18 and have great credit i have 2 credit cards, 2 store credit cards and a phone bill in my name. . .will i have the same amount on my visa freedom card?
We don't have enough information to say for sure. The amount they provide as a credit limit is based on more than just your previous credit score and history. It is also based on income and other known debt. So if your friend has less other debt (rent, etc) and makes more than you then they could easily have a higher credit limit even if your score is higher.
In all my credit and debit cards it says Name M. Last as shown M is for middle Intial. But for some reason its not on my chase freedom is that normal instead its only First Last
They usually go by whatever you put down on your application. I always use my Name and middle initial because my dad did it that way and I thought you were supposed to.
My brothers cards are in his middle and last name only.
His first name is not on there.
It can be whatever you want pretty much. Its your SS# that matters.
I recently applied for the Chase Freedom Card, because I wanted to take advantage of the cash back option at the end of the 12 month period. I have a credit score 0f 750, and always pay bill in full just about everyday online. However, I received a letter in the mail from Chase stating that they were unable to approve me because I have not had credit open long enough becuase I am only 19 and opened my first account less than 12 months ago. However, I was on the phone with a Chase Banker today with a question about my checking account, and she said that while she was in my profile, there was an offer for me for a pre-approved Chase Freedom Card with a credit limit of $4500, and a rate of prime+3.99%. While I don't really care about the rates, because I pay it off, I don't understand why I have a pre-approved offer when less than one week ago I was denied from the same card. Why did this happen? It does not make sense to me.
Pre-approved offers are usually a marketing tool. For instance, Chase signs up for a service with one or all of the major credit reporting agencies. Using the service, Chase sets up parameters, thus saying, "Send me a list of anyone who meets this 'credit score' standard."
A pre-approved offer is then sent to everyone on the list. The Fair Credit Reporting Act says this must be a real offer of a credit card, but it allows the issuer to set additional parameters.
You'll read something like, "This was sent to you based upon information... We will check your credit report to see if you meet all the qualifications for the card."
There is a difference between pre-approved qualifications and "real" qualifications. That's one reason the FCRA allows people to opt-out of preapproved offers.
I received my statement, and this wasn't in my top 3.
I spent over $250 at this place, shouldn't I get my 3%? The person on the phone said it's not classified as a department store, it's a specialty store.
They sell vitamins, t-shirts, etc., it's not one special item.
If I talk to a manager, is there a way I can get 3% for this? I'm baffled at this.
Sorry it didn't meet your expecatations.
I think most people would categorize it as a speciality store - that doesn't mean they sell one specialized item. Think of all the stores in a mall that are not department stores (the majority of them) - they are all categorized as speciality stores although they can sell quite a few types of products.
I doubt a manager can override a corporate wide categorization policy simply because you disagree with it. You can plead your case and see where it gets you. Good luck.
Chase Freedom Credit Card: $50 Cash Back Bonus ยป My Money Blog
The Chase Freedom Card is now offering a $50 cash back bonus after your first purchase. The rewards program itself remains slightly better than the vanilla 1% back cards since they offer 3% back in rotating categories like gas, home improvement and department stores. This sounds like the current Discover card rewards system. You can no longer wait and redeem $200 in cash back rewards for $250 like the good ole’ days, but the rewards never expire and are converted directly to a check mailed to you.
No annual fee, and an intro 0% APR on purchases for 6/12 months. From the T&Cs: “Length of your introductory period will be either 12 billing cycles from account opening for purchases or 6 billing cycles from account opening for purchases depending on our review of your application and credit history.” Basically, this is for folks that would like to grab an easy $50 bonus, take advantage of the 0% APR on purchases, and have a no-hassle backup rewards card.
