Cell Phone Credit Card Processing

I have a small business with very minimal credit card usage. I bought a handheld swiper from Propay online thinking it would be just fine for my usage...and am being told by a guy who sells much more expensive machines that mine will be not usable in about 6 months because of some new laws and that Visa is cracking down on the swipe and transfer data via internet or cell phone type credit card processing that I bought. Any idea if this guy is just trying to sell me with the fear tactic- that mine will be obsolete...or if it's a legitimate point he is making.

Sounds like scare tactics and shady sales techniques to me. There are no laws affecting cell phone or Internet processing how they described it. If Internet processing was being "cracked down on" in the manner they were insinuating then ecommerce would come to a grinding halt.

FYI, there are rules affecting how the security of Internet transactions. It's called PCI DSS. It shouldn't affect your hand held unit, however.

I should point out that there are some older mobile processing equipment that are obsolete for various reasons, most of them being the wireless service they use being declared obsolete and shut down. Unless your processor has specifically told you that you can't use your unit I wouldn't think twice about what that guy says.

I'm trying to raise my credit in the quickest way possible. I am in my freshman year of college, 18 years old, and looking to start out right.
Also, what is the best way to use a credit card in order to raise credit the fastest? I know it's not a fast process but I'm wondering about the best way.

Best way is to use it for every day things and pay it off in full every month before the due date. And yes your idea about paying the cell phone bill using your card will work.

I have used 3 cards for just about everything I buy every month for the last 2 years and raised my score over 150-points and made several hundred dollars in cash back rewards and never paid a penny in fees or interest.

Not bad for using someone elses money for free.

im 23 and currently have a pay as you go phone but am looking to get a pda. i know you need a contract which means you need to do a credit check.

my question is how do they do a credit check? i dont know if i even have any credit.. ive never had a credit card or anything under my name.. whats the process??

You simply go in with your ID and your SSN number, they should be able to check the credit for you.

Don't expect to know whats in the credit history, or credit score b/c cell phone companies system only comes with 2 possible answers - approved with no deposit OR approved with deposit.

If you don't have any credit history, you most likely be putting nothing down. Its not like buying a car or house. Its just a phone service and they are not that strict.

Just be careful running at multiple places b/c everytime you run your credit, the points come off your score - may eventually come back as deposit otherwise may not.

About 6 months ago, we got service with Sprint. We discovered that we had little to no signal at our home. We called and were told they were in the process of putting more towers up, to be patient. We have been going around and around with them for the past month. The network tech said the closest tower was 5 miles away. So we use roaming. Roaming is included on our phone plan. However, everytime we try to place a call in roamining it tells us our phone isn't registered and demads a credit card number. They have tried all kinds of updates, even given us a new phone...nothing. I work from home at night and if the cable goes down, so does my home phone. I have to drive 2 miles into town at 3 in the morning to call in. Yet their attitude is that it isn't their problem and we just have to deal with it. If we cancel the contract, they will charge us early termination fees. I need a cell that works. We are paying for a service we can't hardly use. Help!

You have to start by carefully reading your terms of service. To the best of my knowledge they have to let you out of your contract under the circumstances you describe. Try being a little more forceful with them, you have to be affirmative and persistent - but do not use curse words or it could damage any Better Business Bureau complaints. Which is the next thing you can do is file a complaint.

Try different techniques to make a roaming call at your house. Dial numbers using the area code and no area code for example if dialing 555-1111 give you a request for a credit card try 203-555-1111 and 1-203-555-1111 one of these may break that request and get through.

NOW here's the fun part if you can figure out how to connect to calls in roaming mode put your phone setting to roam only. Then make calls as many as long as you can. Sprint will drop you from their contract fast.
