Car rental without a credit card in Spain?

Hi,

Could someone tell me if it is possible to rent a car in Spain for a week without a credit card? Both myself and my partner drives but neither of us has a credit card. Or is there any other way of aquiring a car for the week?

Serious answers only please :)

Thanks!

Hi, I have done that several times, renting with a debit card, visa for example, or prepaying but only one place accepts: Europcar.

You can reserve online for free and also if you register for free too, as a "priviledge client card" and you can choose your payment method.

Also just with a normal Visa or similar debit card, the automatic reservation accepts it, and if you read the terms and conditions of payment of Europcar it says it accepts debit cards as well as other forms of payment.

I always tell them if ocassionally a rental clerck has been difficult that I can leave a cash-debit deposit (usually 300 - 600 €), which they charge directly to your debit card, if lazy clerck tell him to consult with central and they will OK it, especially if you have a reservation number.

You can say you have rented with them often even if its not true since the only keep one updated one year old databanks. If you do not register for the Priviledege card, which you should since its free very much worth it since it allows different flexible ways of payment and very speciall treatment, just show ID and get the key of your rental. If you dont have time enough now you can use it for the future, specially if like me you do not have intentions of getting a credit card. They are absolutelly trustworthy and have always returned the money inmediately as soon as you return the car.

This is the only way and the only company that is flexiblke enough to do it. Besides their cars and rates are some of the best. I can asure you it only worked with Europcar. I am spanish and have rented many times, I hate credit cards and so I have used this system oftenevery time.

Doubleclicking will take you to Europcar site. On the bottom you can choose your closest site or site of your own country from a roll-down window:

Europcar Free Inscription

Europcar online resevations - confirmed same day usually instantly:

Terms and Conditions (about payment and requirements):

This is the only way, I am sure

Hope it helps

car rental without a credit card in Cancun?

Anyone know if there is a company that rents cars in Cancun without a credit card? I am over 25, and have a debit card with visa logo. How much would they hold if they took it?

It varies by company. Most major car rental companies will accept debit cards but like you say there may be a hold. Some of the US companies are running credit checks at bigger locations rather than putting holds on. I would narrow it down to a couple of companies on price, then review their debit card policies carefully before booking. All the major companies have policies listed on site.

Is there a car rental company you can rent a car without a credit card?

I don't own a credit card, nor do I want a credit card but I have been told I cannot rent a car without one. I just want to know if this is true.

Many car rental companies will now accept a debit or cheque card with a visa or mastercard logo to rent a car. You must be 25 and the companies that do accept debit cards often require a larger deposit than usual ($500+) and some also require a credit check, extra I.D., and/or a round trip airline ticket (if renting at an airport).

Check the credit identification requirements for the company you want to rent from.. these policies can be found on their websites.

Where can I find a cheap rental car without a credit card?

Need 2 get to NC ASAP. Where can I find a car???

You can check the travel websites (Expedia, Orbitz, etc) to try to find a deal on a rental car. But if you don't have a credit card, you better have a debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo on it. It doesn't stop there. You're also going to have to quite a bit of money on it, as some rental companies allow debit cards, only unless there's a substantial amount available for a deposit, somewhere up to $400.

Radically Re-Thinking Credit Cards: Part Two | Money Under 30

Use them like crazy to earn rewards. I just recommend keeping two credit cards —the card you’ve had the longest and the card with the highest credit limit. For simplicity (and to protect yourself from going on a spending binge and landing in debt), cancel the rest.

But as one person already commented—banks will cancel your credit cards if you don’t use them. Because you want to keep at least two credit cards open to continue building credit, you want to make sure the two cards you keep stay open. So you should use them from time to time.
