Business Credit Card Machine

We own a business that accepts credit and several times we have run our personal credit card through to put funds in our business account. Is this legal? We are in NJ.

I want to be able to accept credit cards at my customers home when I perform my hair service. About how much will that cost? Where do I get the machines?

You're looking for a merchant account. A lot of companies offer merchant services.

Here are a few out of thousands of banks that offer merchant accounts-

Chase Bank
Bank Of America(My preferred choice)
PayPal

Keep in mind that there are NO free merchant services and you will have to purchase the equipment(averages $250) and have either a phone line or a high speed internet connection available. And merchant accounts are subject to credit approval.

And most average no more than $45 per month with a small interest charge on each time you swipe a card.

Many banks in your area offer merchant services. Choose the bank that you primarily use for your personal/business checking accounts.

The way it works is when someone uses their credit or debit card to pay for what you offer, the funds go into your bank account, so that's why it's best to use a bank in your area.

for years we have only accepted cash at our taxi company but for the past couple months we've been getting LOTS of request for credit card transactions. excuse my ignorance but what do i need to do and where do i start. i have no idea what to do.

Talk to the bank your business uses.

Hi! I am starting a small home business with my mother and we are curious how to get one of the black credit card machines to run credit cards from home - or is it easier to do it over the internet? They can help you with the credit card processing either through a standalone terminal (the black machine), through your computer or even integrated with some cash registers.

Processing directly is less expensive than going through paypal.

Hi there I was wondering if i get a credit card machine will it make my business better. I have a carpet cleaning business and was thinking of getting myself a credit card machine so as to take in more different varities of payment.

It depends, There are positives and negatives to implementing such a payment option.
However for your type of business I personally would NOT accept credit for a payment method.
I have been in flooring for over 20 years, and when dealing in tangible goods, the positives definitely outweigh the neg's. In my business, I deal with both goods and services.
You (Being strictly Service related.) are likely better to remain with strictly cash or check in my opinion.
Aside from the monthly service fees, and the fact that a percentage of each transaction goes to the credit card companies.
Should a dispute be initiated by a card holder, the card companies can (And Will) deduct disputed funds from your bank account until settled,thus disrupting your cash flow.
Since you are strictly service oriented instead of tangible goods, you should consider the fact that Service and/or the quality thereof is more often contested than the goods are.
