I just turned eighteen at the end of February, so I have limited credit history.
I was wondering what credit card is used for building credit, and would be the best choice for a person getting they're first credit card.
there are a couple of ways you could start building credit, you could get a small personal loan which you might need a cosigner or the best way will be getting a credit cards, you could get a credit card and use it for your every day expenses but make sure you pay in full at the end of the month that way it will show pay in full everytime the credit card company reports to the credit beuros. At the begining you will only be approved for the lower end credit cards but once you build credit in about 6-9 months you should be able to apply for a better card with better benefits such as free miles or cash back. Check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad or no credit section and you will find a few choices. But if you are a student apply of a student credit card these cards have no annual fees and low rates.

I have a credit card that is over my credit limit but is still "open" or I have a card that is below the limit but has been closed by the creditor.
What is the best card to pay off first, asuming that the interest rates are the same. I'm leaning towards the open account that is over limit.
Which one would show most favorably on my credit file?
I don't USE credit cards, only cash, so lectures about not using the cards is not needed. I made a mistake now I'm paying for it. Iw ill glady pay off my debts instead of taking the cowards way out and declare bankrupty.
No over limit fees, all of those are waived.
Likewise I am already paying well over the minimum payments on each one, but am thinking that I would knock one of the cards down to the mimimum payment and double up payments on the card that is not closed, but it over limit.
Sounds as if I'm heading in the right track.
thanks
If you have an account over-the-limit and another one that is closed, the OTL account is your first priority. It will show most favorably if it is still open and you can quickly return it to a current status.
If you are having these problems, you may benefit from a debt management plan. You may wish to meet with a credit counselor to discuss options for improving your situation. A directory of local agencies is below.

I'm a college student and would like to get a credit card (for building up my credit for my future). I have a savings account, and have some money in it. I am also a full time student. I also do not have a job. What is the best and safest way to get my first credit card where I will be approved?
*my bank does not supply credit cards.
Since you are a college student, most credit card companies would probably be thrilled to issue you a credit card (they make a lot of money by taking advantage of college students) but as long as you are responsible, you can make them work for you and see to it that they never get a penny of interest from you. Just be sure to make your payments on time.
I'm surprised you're not getting offers in the mail already (I used to get them every other day or so). Just contact Chase or Capital One and see who has the best offers. You should be approved for at least a small line of credit, no prob.

I really want to build my credit, but I've never had a credit card before (obviously). So, I'm looking to find the best one to get for the first time.
My first one was with Citi cards. They have tons of cool student options. When i started out the interest rate was only like 12 or 13 percent but due to the recent economic activity it went up to 19.9 percent. You probably won't find a much better rate anyway with no credit history. Just be careful and shop around. Lots of companies will want to take advantage of you just to slap a high interest rate to your card.
I just started my first job and am trying to establish good credit. What is the best credit card out there for me, what should I be looking for and what kind of card can I get with little credit history?
Capital One has cards for people with limited credit history.
You can use this rewards calculator to see which of numerous cards (including Capital One cards) will pay you the most in rewards for your entered spending profile:

This recommendation assumes that you'll be paying your balance in full each month (which is the best way to use credit cards). By funneling your normal expenses through the card and paying it in full every month, you'll build your credit quickly, avoid interest, and earn great rewards.
Good luck!

Are you trapped into making only minimum payments on your credit cards? I hope not.
Minimum payments decline as the balance on the credit card declines.
Let’s take a credit card with a $2000 balance at 15% interest to use as an example. You would expect to pay about a $40 (2%) monthly payment when you start making your payments:
By making the minimum payment only, it will take you 13 years and 11 months to pay off your credit card and you would expect to pay $2,126 in interest.
However, if you continued paying that $40 until the credit card was paid off, it would only take you 6 years and 6 months to pay off the credit card and you would pay about $1,100 in interest.
