why was I refused a credit card?

I just found out that my application for a bank of ireland credit card has been refused. Im 19 and just got my first full time job so I decided it would be a good idea to get my first credit card, I only wanted it for doing online shopping on ebay etc. I've been with bank of ireland for 2 years and I have a regular sorce of income now, I still live at home so Im not paying any big bills. I cant understand why they wont give me one, they didnt even say why in the letter. All my friends have them, they are the same age and all at college, they dont even work! so why cant I get one?

The only way you'll know is to call them up and ask them. You also have the option of calling the credit reporting agency that they used and get a free copy of your credit report. That report might shed some light on exactly why your credit application was denied.

It could also be that you don't have ENOUGH credit so the bank didn't take a chance on you. Again, ask and research your credit report through the agency that the bank used.

Can I use my Canadian bank card (TD Canada Trust) in Ireland & N.Ireland @ banking machines to withdraw money?

I'm going to Ireland for two months and need to know if I can use my bank card at bank machines to withdraw funds like I do at home in Canada. This isn't the same as a credit card, it's just my plain old banking card.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

If it is a Visa or Mastercard for sure, otherwise find out from the card company - a quick call should do the trick.
Peace.

Anyone know of a credit card in ireland which offers points/miles/etc???

Low interest rate isn't very interesting for me since I pay my card in full each month. I live in ireland now, but I'm coming from the US where there are a million options to choose from - hotel points, airline miles, etc. For some reason I can't find anything similar when I look online in Ireland. I must be missing a trick here - help???? The cards Bank of Ireland wants to offer me do not look very attractive......

thanks!!

NO,NOTHING....WELL DONE

HI I'm currently working in Ireland & looking to get a new credit card from UK, is this possible? I'm a UK res?

I have a UK bank account, UK credit cards, and a UK address. But i work in Ireland and am paid to an Irish bank account, although i regularly transfer money into my UK account.
Most online applications do not accept my Irish work place as it does not have a UK post-code system...this is the main problem!

You should have no trouble getting a card from your existing bank .. (they hand them out like sweeties .. )

If you have to open a new account, they will ask you to prove your UK address .. this means your name being on the Voters Register or a Council Tax bill in your name .. some will accept utility bills eg Gas/Electricity in your name instead (or as well).

They will also ask for copies of some documentation that includes a photo to prove your identity - passport, drivers license etc.

Most of the difficulties can be avoided by walking into a branch of the Bank /Building Society local to yoiur UK address where you want to open the account and speaking to staff there .. (they quite rightly suspect that people who deal only by post are trying to avoid being 'clocked' by the staff or recorded by the security cameras)..

All communications will take place with your UK address (i.e. that's where they will send the card and statements) .. in order to avoid making late payment (due to not seeing the statement in time) you might want to select a Card that allows on-line statements/payments or set up a Direct Debit to pay off the balance automatically every month.

Bank Of Ireland Introduces 2 For 1 Card | Credit Balance Transfer

Credit card rate of 14.9%.

Even better, and as an incentive for new customers, the card offers an introductory 0% rate on purchases for the first six months. But the true beauty of this product is pure convenience. If you are a major purchase that you know, you could payoff within a year, there is no need for taking the time to compare loans and pay the price, then request quotes before submitting the application and waiting for the money to go to waste in your account. You can credit for the account. Apart from that, it would prove the use of repayment facility still cheaper than most of the personal loans on the market. The average personal loans in Ireland is between 9.7 percent and 12.2 percent and the average overdraft is over 15 percent, which means that they would make use of the repayment element of the 2 in 1 account pays a significant savings on interest rates.
