I am an Australian living in US. I need to pay my Aussie credit card statement and am wondering if mailing in a check from my Bank of America account is the best way to go - can this be done?
Please let me know, I'm not very knowlegeable about this kind of thing..
That will be your best option
Aussie Credit Cards takes on the banks and stores for their high credit card interest rates.
Going to America then Europe. Have x amount of dollars in savings, and thinking about getting a credit card as a backup option. Credit cards seem to attract late payment fees and overseas currency conversion fees as well as costing a fortune to use at ATMs. Is there a way to hold my money in an account which doesn't cost a fortune to withdraw at ATMs or use overseas? Is it possible as an Aussie citizen to open up a foreign bank account?

How can a foreigner go about applying an aussie bank credit card and would the aussie bank be able to track my credit rating in my native country?
it is very hard for a foreigner to get a credit card if you're not australian.
you need to have a visa with at least 2 years remaining and earn about AUD $70 000 per year.
i don't think credit ratings can be tracked internationally, hence the higher standards to get a credit card in the first place.
this info comes from a close friend who is a bank manager in sydney. i also live in sydney.
Have 2 credit cards: Aussie and Foreign.
Due to recession lost most of my work last year so relied on cards, so now have problems with the foreign one, (where I live now) as I borrowed against it only was not able to make last payment which was 2 weeks ago. Work has still not recovered either and last salary was not paid, so still fighting that.
Currently. Aussie one is ok, but not enough to pay what is needed on the foreign one which does belong to the citibank group.
Thinking of returning to Aus to sort everything out from there with financial advisor etc and more importantly to get work there to get a full time income.
1) Is it possible to sort things out from there with it being a foreign credit card? (Have looked here for financial advisors, but language barriers etc).
2) Can I be kept from leaving the country?
3) What is BEST course of action?
I do want to sort things out, but feel I am better off doing it from HOME and in a better work situation.
Such a dilemma and I do want to resolve it.
You should go to your foreign CC issuer, and ask for english speaking financial advisor. I dont believe that such institution dont have any english speaking employee.
Dont delay, the sooner the better for your record.
Good luck
Im looking to apply for a credit card in Australia but all the sites ive visited require you to be an aussie resident. Anyone know of a financial services provider in Australia that allow non-residents to obtain a card??
If you have an "American Express Card" you don't need one specifically from Australia.
American Express is world wide.
Master Card & Visa will work in any forign country if you tell them about your plans to buy in that country ahead of time.
