American Advantage Credit Card

Should I upgrade to Citibank American Advantage Platinum credit card?

I have been a gold card user for a few years with perfect credit and I spend a few thousand dollars on it each month. I just got an email to upgrade to Platinum. Anyone else have experiance with this and should I accept the offer?

They've been trying to get me to upgrade to a Platinum for the last 2 yrs, and I've refused.

The advantage (not AAdvantage :-p) is that the cap on the number of miles you can earn per month is lifted. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are some other cool stuff for being a platinum member.

The big catch for me is the increase in the Annual Fee, a $30 increase per year.

So, if you bump up against the cap often and don't mind paying extra/yr in annual fees, then do it. I don't use the card often anymore except to take advantage of balance transfer offers, and I have a hard time burning off the frequent flyer miles I do earn. So an upgrade is not for me.

What are the advantage of getting an American Express credit card?

This is the card we use-the visa is for big trips or emergencies. Their customer service is excellent, you pay it off every month (you don't have to) and their rewards points seem to go much farther. Its just a good company and much more accepted now.

How does an American Express credit card works?

What are the advantages of having a american express credit card?
How does it work?
Is it hard to get?

Thanks!

American Express is accepted in certain U.S. luxury establishments exclusively such as Neiman Marcus and Costco Wholesale and widely in Europe. Walgreen's is one of the few large businesses that do not take AMEX along with a few Broadway theatres in favor of VISA and/or MasterCard.

These type of cards with the exception of Blue and the Costco TrueEarnings do not have pre-set spending limits, which doesn't look good on you credit reports since the highest balance will become your credit limit., For example, if you charge $50.00 and the billing statement closes with that amount, AMEX will reports that activity/balance but the credit bureaus will assume that is your credit limit.

Also, if you rent your residence, you have higher chances of NOT getting approved, regardless of your creditworthiness. To apply for a AMEX card, you need to have a FICO score of at least 715 with no negative information, and no more than 3-credit inquiries in the last 3-months. And you must have not been decline credit by AMEX within the last 6-months.

Another important thing you need to be aware of is if you charge your credit card with high amounts within the first 6-months, they will place your account in a "possible fraud alert" this mean that they will be asking you shortly for a financial review in which they demand from you 4-full bank statements, 2 past W-2s, 2-past 1040s, 4-pay stubs, birth certificate and a photocopy of your identification card or driver's license.

All documents must be faxed within 48-hours of the request or they will close your account and report it as "Close per creditor" Not bad, ah?

How do air miles work with an American Express card?

I don't know anything at all about air miles, do you collect them just by buying other flights with the credit card? Does the amount of miles travelled or the cost of the flight determine how many air miles you get? And could you book your friends flights with the card so that you clock up more points? Any big advantages / disadvantages of american express? Was thinking of getting a credit card anyway, and thought the air miles deal looked good.
Sorry I know that's a lot of questions! Any you can answer would be great, thank you!

you are credited with aiormiles for each purchase you make, sometimes you get double airmiles if you use your AE card at particular sponsors. You save up the miles and can redeem them for products ( I got an expresso maker) or flights, even greyhound bus rides, once you get into the program they will send you a catalog of what you can cash them in for.You don't have to just get airplane flights to get rewarded airmiles. it can be anything you buy with your card.

if my bf gets a second card from his american experss in my name does that go onto my credit?...?

we are very good in paying off our debts...
the only debt we have is our tv.. wich we havent pay'd yet because we got a 1 year no interest rate on it and figured to take advantage..
anyways...
my bf wants to get me a card from his american express account.. im just wondering if this will help me to get other credit cards?....
or if he was to do this if it would have nothing to do with my credit..
im not sure how that works...
forgot to add we live in canada... dont know if that makes a difference....

If he got you a card on his account and he's good at paying his bills and keeping his balance down, then yes, it could help you. Because it will show on your credit report. However, if he is late paying or goes over the limit, etc, that would reflect badly on you as well.

Also, the only way it would help your chances of getting other cards is if it positively effects your credit so that you better qualify for one.

Bank failures hit 106 on year

So far 106 banks have failed in 2009. See FDIC timeline of 2009's failed banks.

CreditSights, which tracks the dismal data, predicts that in the current cycle, from 2008 through 2011, as many as 1,100 banks will fail. That would wipe out 13.4% of all U.S. banks, representing 7% of U.S. banking assets.

The last year in which the FDIC had that many banks to deal with was in 1992, at the tail end of the last real estate crisis. The FDIC rescued 122 in 1992, according to Keefe, Bruyette & Woods researchers.

The increasing stream of bank failures is likely to run through 2011 according to some industry experts, as the fallout from the credit crisis continues.

American Express Blue Sky Card: No More Restrictions! | All U Can ...

One of the chief complaints heard from consumers regarding rewards credit cards are those cards that promise the world, but restrict you from getting there. Specifically, credit cards that allow you to accumulate a large number of points within a short period of time, but when it comes time to redeeming those points for free air miles, restrictions kick in. All those points and no where to go…at least on your schedule, that is. Well, American Express is doing something about all of that and its recently introduced American Express Blue Sky card is certainly getting a lot of attention. American Express is saying “farewell” to travel rewards restrictions and you can too. Please read on for all the exciting details!
