I need to buy an airplane ticket from US to Latin America. I can pay with a credit card that offers 5% cash back, OR pay with a credit card that earns 2 miles for every $1 spent. Which is a better deal or what is the value of each point mile earned?
The ticket will cost about $700.
Separately, I have about 30,000 CITI Reward points, but the ticket I need costs 72,000 points. I could redeem 28,000 points for $200 in cash, so they are "paying" me 7/10 of a cent for each point. However, if I want to buy the extra 44,000 points it costs me 2.5 cents each.
Let's say you spend 12.500 dollars on the card. that will get you 25,000 miles or 625 bucks. .
What will you be redeeming yur miles for?? It is probably a ticket that will cost less than 625 dollars.
if that is true take the cash back.
If somehow you can use those miles for a better ticket than that, take the miles

I'm looking for a cash back card. Miles, gift certificates, etc don't really interest me. I'm looking for a card to use on literally everything I buy (which I will pay off monthly so interest isn't a deciding factor) and accrue some cash back while I'm at it.
Several people reccomended Chase cards because they had a 5% cash back rate on "everyday purchases", but I wasn't able to find any that had better than 3%. Are there any cards still out there with 5% or better?
I've seen many similar questions to this one on here, but most of them seem dated.
Any suggestions?
The rewards change from month to month for Chase cards. Last year, I got a Chase card with the 5% cash back, now it's 5% cash back for the first 12 months, then 1% cash back after that, so shop around. You can look at bankrate.com for the best deals.

I found a 5% cash back credit card on http://www.deals2bank.com but it doesnt state whether it is for all purchases or some category.
Every card issuer is different and you need to read the fine print from the rewards department .
The cards I have are a 5% on gas , groceries ( but does Not consider the Walmart supers grocery ) and drugstores .
The other shopping is 1 % .
Some cards say 'points' but it turns out
1 point does NOT = $1 .
You have to read the find print for That offer to know .
good luck
note : I get about $300 per year in cash rebates .
Update : checked your link , & that's for Am Express
Their word to note is " Up to " . . .
You acheive the high rate ( 5% ) when your spending reaches $6500 and is for certain catagories , 1.5% for the 'other catagories' .
Under $6500 your rate is 1% for in catagory
and 1/2% for items out of catagory .

so, my credit card I use all the time had 5% cash back on certain items. I called and they said it had been reduced to 2% for the BS excuse that they added drugstores and convienience stores to the list. so, do I have a right to claim the 5% or can they just change the rules as they go along?
Unfortunately, the card issuer reserves the right to change the programs, rules, promotions, and other terms at any time... I would caution you to read your small print in your cardholder agreement.. Not that I am agreeing with them, but it has happened to me..
Cash Back Credit Card – Appeals To Many | All U Can Find ...
One of the most popular credit card reward programs available today is the cash back credit card. These will give you a cash rebate every time you make a purchase. The best cash back credit cards appeal to many and would even include no annual fees and a 0% interest APR for up to 15 months. Imagine taking an instant discount every time you make a purchase on your cash back credit cards. Depending on where you shop, those savings could add up to a considerable sum.
Cash Back
The most basic benefit from a cash back credit card is your rebate from every purchase. Most companies give a 1% rebate on all purchases. However, some programs will give up to a 5% rebate on such purchases as groceries, drug store purchases, and especially gasoline. You have to spend these amounts of money anyway, so why not get a rebate for it? However, there are savings beyond what we have mentioned here.
