I am in college and have $3700 debt accumulated on a credit card.
I don't plan to add any more to this number. My minimum payments with finance charge included is about $80 a month which I can sort of manage.
I want out of debt though!!!! I can't work full time to pay it off because of classes, and I've gotta eat with what cash I have.
If I told my parents they'd murder me, so no possible bailout from them.
Any tips? short of selling a kidney?
part time job, cut down on luxuries, and start eating foods that are $5 a meal or less. oh and pay as much as u can not just the minimum. the bill will disappear faster and u wont be charged as much for interest

By using services from a debt relief organization you will stop receiving phone calls asking you for money. You will pay a fixed rate amount every month which will never go up. You won't be dealing with your creditors any more. The "debt relief people" will be paying your bills for you, and your credit card company is out.
You then pay the debt relief company.

these phone #'s that help you manage your credit card debt, how much do they charge? is it worth it or should u just try to manage your own affairs?
There is one that is recommended by the Consumer Action Handbook Consumer Credit Counseling Services. They are the oldest non profit credit counseling service in the Country.
I used them several years ago and they worked with my creditors to lower both my monthly payments and interest rate. I was debt free in 36-months.
You can contact them at 1-800-388-2227.

I need help managing credit card debt.?
They will come after you.
You will either have to pay your cc companies directly, or they will sell your debt to a 3rd party who will be much more aggressive in collecting the $. There are options for consolidating your credit, although many people say those actually hurt your credit score. However, not paying your credit cards will also hurt you worse, so you’ve got to weigh your options.
First, look at your expenses. If you go really lean for a month or two (hey, ramen noodles are food too), can you put away some of you debt? You may be shocked to learn just how much you can sacrifice knowing that it is only temporary.
Secondly, talk to your credit card companies. If you are late (in default) but they haven’t written off your debt yet, then you can often directly negotiate a lower settlement with them directly. This means you would have to cut up the card and pay some amount (not your full balance) immediatly, but it could be an option. Also, ask the card companies if they have any payment or consilidation options. They are in business to take your money, but a smart company know some money is better than none. Honesty is your best policy.
