Credit Card debt and garnishment-from custody battle.!.!.!?
Ok before everyone tells me I don't know how to manage my money I would like to explain. I racked up 3 credit cards because of a custody battle. It was completely worth it and if I had to do it again, I would. I had no other choice. I had not collateral for a bank loan.
Her is my few questions. Since I was in a financial hardship and couldn't pay then they will probably garnish my wages. Can more than one company garnish my wages at a time or can only one garnishmnet be done at a time on my wages?
Next question is this. Lets say I don't make a payment on these accounts. It's already been two years and I haven't made a payment. If I start to make a payment now then it reports to my credit as new activity and starts the 7 year process of removal off my credit all over again. I have read up on that. So instead of filing bankruptcy, I've thought of just leaving them alone for 5 more years. These are closed accounts, closed by me not the creditor (I believe, cause I was told that would look better at the time). But....Can they still add interest and late fee's and if so does this info get sent to my credit report as new activity (cause of a new balance with the fee's, etc.) and constantly start my 7 years removal off my credit all over again every time they may this change. Does this make sense? I hope so.
I also have 2 hospital bills from depression (hospitiliazation-which they didn't work with me on hardship, which is understandable, some companys do and some don't). The other hospital is ER bills. I unfortanetly(spelling) have no insurance. I've tried working with them but they just keep saying thats not enough money.
Can-lets say one credit card and one hospital garnish my wages at the same time?
Sorry for all the questions but I'm trying to get back on track with good health, decent job, etc. I use to have a 849 credit score and I know someday I will get it back up there. I just have to get health insurance, etc. I do manage money well, even though this post doesn't show that. But my (life-my daughter) was more important then my credit. Now that the custody is settled. I'm ready to have my credit back but need to know these answers first. If it takes me 5-10years to build back my credit then I can handle that. I will be 41 in 10 years and by then I will be able to help my daughter with college due to building my credit back up. Life is good and I know I can do this. Thanks, Thanks, Thanks.
I know some of you will say just pay them but my main focus is on the questions I asked. That would help me out so much.
Oh and I know all states are different on there laws. I live in Nebraska so if that helps.
Thanks Again
God Bless

Zoey (another user on another questions), thanks for the info at the end. I do all this all ready. I have no more credit cards. We only eat out when family gets together like once ever 4 months and I take my own coffee to work, lol. I even compare prices at the grocery store. Some people call me a tight azz but I have to be to make ends meat and see me credit where it use to be. I still thank you for the information. I almost don't even drink pop anymore and make tea at home and use my old pop bottles to fill up. I'm a trying. Also, when I purchase something, I never give exact change, that way I get change back. I save my change and then every 6 months or so-I get a big suprise, yah, lol.
I can't seem to get simple answers to these questions. I know how to budget, I know how to save some money when I have extra to save, I don't have a spending problem, never have. I just got CC debt do to a custody battle and some depression which inquired hospital bills. Everything else is ok. So please no more answers about stop spending, how to save money. I'm already a tight azz. There is just never any left over after bills. I'm just looking for answers to my questions is all.
You could try making an offer to your creditors, but you have to follow through if they accept, and it will hurt your credit rating, but it may keep your wages from being attached. And ignore these jokers that tell you that your going to make a ton of money at home, their spammers.

The maximum garnishment is 25% for all parties that have won any judgments against you.....If one firm is already garnishing at 25%....another firm that has won a judgement could not add another garnishment on top of that...they'd have to wait their turn in line until the first garnishment if finished.
Is there are way that I would be able to negotiate the removal of a collection from my credit report?? Maybe if I tell the collection agency I will pay if they remove it from my report? Or would it be easier to pay and then write the credit bureaus and say that the information is incorrect because I have paid?? I have the money to pay off the collection agency but I want to make sure that my credit will start to get repaired, so I dont know if I should only pay under the terms that it is removed or what....ALSO...
If my account for a credit card has been charged off and sent to a collection agency is there anyway to have it removed where it says: Account charged off/past due 150 days if I pay it? Can I still negotiate with the actual credit card company or is it too late since it has been sent to collection?
I am trying to get my credit fixed on my own. I am now able to pay most of my debt, and want to have GOOD CREDIT instead of just paying off my debts. Thanks!
I meant I want to have good credit instead of my credit report just saying that I have paid off my debts (they would still be on there, and have a negative effect I believe)
yes you can negotiate with them, my husband did, he asked them if he paid the full amount if they would take it completely off his report and they did. Just make sure everything is in writing first.
i have a few judgments on my credit report. one is for about $2500 and the other is for $1800. both are for credit cards that i defaulted on several years ago.
is there any way to contact the debt buyer and offer a reduced settlement (via my attorney friend who knows all the proper language to include in such an agreement) in exchange for expungement of the judgment.
i want the judgment REMOVED and i will not agree to anything less than agreement for removal/expungement.
is this a common practice???????? does it work???
Yes, you are free to offer settlements on any judgment made against you.
The problem is that judgments are also public record so the collection agency will not have the ability to remove this from your credit like a normal collection account.
What you can do is include a stipulation that they go to court and file to dismiss/vacate the judgment, which of course you would have to pay for. Another option would be to get an agreement where they would not oppose a motion for dismissal that you and your lawyer would file.
I have a debt to settle for less than $200. I did not even know that this showed up in my credit history until I went to the bank to put in an application for a professional student line of credit.
I want to pay this debt (even though it's against principles because of some messed up customer service I received from Rogers) but I'm also on a tight schedule. School starts in January and I need to get everything processed in less than 2 weeks.
My bank's financial representative told me to pay it off over the phone using my credit card and also to get them to fax to me in writing of 1) removal of my negative listing, and 2) payment of debt. I'm not sure if giving out my personal information as such is necessarily a good idea. Please advice.
Well you can fax a letter to the collection agency offering a pay for delete agreement -- you pay $x and they remove the item from your credit report. Ask that an authorized agent of the collection agency sign and return a copy of your letter indicating acceptance of the offer. When you get the signed copy, mail them a money order. NEVER give a collection agency direct access to your bank account. I wouldn't give them a credit card either.
Even if all this goes smoothly, it is very unlikely the item will be removed from your credit report within 2 weeks. It will likely take 30 to 60 days before the collector updates and the item is removed. Perhaps the bank will accept a copies of your agreement and money order to show that the matter is resolved.
